Hello, GMC!

I have a favor to ask of you. I made a survey for a college research project in Business Communications. I put this survey on YouTube to gain a wider audience. Would you like to participate? You can list your votes in the comments on YouTube or here in the forum. I would hope you wouldn't mind listing them either place. I wanted to be able to prove to my teacher that these are real people saying this, and not me filling out random answers on the survey. (Even though she knows and trusts me). I fill out the survey on my computer that matches your votes, and then I print it out.

Thanks! smile.gif

There where a lot darker times before computer games where even invented, violents is in human nature. People need to separate real from pretend themselves (and effects of real life actions), if they can't do this then anything could affect them (including games, tv, books, other people, or even without them). Maturity plays a part into this, but to be mature has nothing to do about age, a 12 year old can be more mature compared to a 24 year old - restriction labels therefore fail. Also to go the other way, over protecting someone from becoming "volient", creates an illusion of the real world which can lead to rebellion, and is known to create psychos and sociopaths.

Seek and You shall find. Fools will find a way to escalate their stupidity, no matter what other will try. In fact it can help them also eliminate themselves, according to Darwinism - this is a good thing. Most shooters won't help in becoming a "good soldier" because good solider is a discipled one, and discipline is one of the rarest thing one can find in games. 99% of players have nothing to do with proper team work/discipline. There are few things besides "discipled upbringing" that can help in being a good soldier. Otherwise only practice (can be in a train camp, but killing works best) can improve "soldier skills".

In my opinion the whole "violence" hype is nothing to be worry about, there are real economical problems that should be treated instead of such false problems. For each victim of this "violence hype" there are most probably hundreds of victims of poor national health-care. Violence paranoia can only lead in banning knifes because these are "very dangerous", not mentioning breathing, that is also very bad for Your lungs.

There was a survey made in USA, when people were asked for signing under petition for banning a dangerous substance - H2O. Most signed the petition, showing how brainless they are. After all H2O is water, and without it we all die. It's sad that the same thing happens even at school...

I don't think video games make people violent, or even desensitizes them to real violence. If you look at hardcore gamers most of them have never gotten into a fist fight, and the ones that witness or experience real violence are traumatized by it, thats just from my experience. Theres a big difference between shooting someone on screen and getting punched in the face tongue.gif

One of my gamer friends seen me get in a melee once and just stood there, all 6'5 210lbs of him... what a big help he was. I was the one that got in the altercation and he's the one that got all distraught from it - it was the first time he witnessed violence first hand. So what desensitizes people to violence is REAL violence, not the simulated kind.

What everyone has said makes sense, I agree 100% with Mudbone's answer. I can back that up, being a hardcore gamer, I have shot 100,000s and meleed with high level violences and blood on max graphics... yet in a real fist fight honestly I'm useless and try avoid conflict. Also playing hours of Guitar Hero, has not made me a better guitar player in real life, except for rhythm timing maybe? I agreed to making a better solider (but don't approve to it), if you have a look at games like Americans Army, designed for army recruitment.

As for blood, I'm neutral.
As for swearing level, I'm also neutral.
As for ideas level, that might of increased but reactions to that are low / almost zero.
As for shooting a gun, in multiplayer games I can get top on the scoreboard, as for real life gone hunting once, missed most shots.

What has changed?
Addiction to games. You need to know when to take breaks. Still take exercise, etc.
Social level... has actually increased with multiplayer and MORPGs, in-game chat.
Logic skills have improved majorly.
Hand / Eye coordination has increased hugely.
Memory level has improved slightly.
20/20 eye vision, degrading over time.

Thanks so much for your time, guys!! I'm so excited! I'll have my 50 surveys in no time! My small class has already filled out the survey - even my teacher. I probably should go to Game Stop! smile.gif

Never getting in any fights is a good thing, because once things get violent you never know how they're going to turn out. Sometimes the best self defense weapon to have is a good pair of running shoes - just run the hell away.

But if you really wanna get your aggression out, just drink a case of beer and jump in a mosh pit over and over again for two hours tongue.gif So much better than getting in a fist fight, because you don't have to deal with the cops, who can really rough you up.

As far as hand-eye coordination is concerned, theres other things online that you can do that are more fulfilling, if you catch my drift wink.gif

Here in the states a while back we had the PMRC that created those spiffy EVIL CONTENT lables and such that are on Heavy Metal CDs (what's a CD?) and we also here quite a bit about violence in Video Games.

I mostly agree, but cannot answer completely, because some questions are statements, almost questions with answers. It is important to understand that violence in video games can affect people behavior a LOT. This said, playing violent video games can indeed change your behavior, but that doesn't mean you get more violent. On contrary, you could get more numb to violence. Both can be serious if it goes into extreme.
