I use Windows 7: 64 bit.

I chose a multiple choice poll just in case you run both. wink.gif

I am a proud mac man since 2 years... I really started hating Windows after it gave virus / malware issues every 3-6 months and I had to format the computer every damn time (Yes, I was careful in not opening random emails) but somehow they just popped in. Sometimes using cracked softwares or sometimes copying over files from USB devices... sad.gif

Here at home I use Windows 7 on a pretty new Dell Inspiron. Works really well so far. At my mom's place I still have my 6 year old computer with Windows XP, this PC runs smoothly and with no problems at all for 6 years now...I really don't know where all the hate for Windows comes from, seriously.

WinXP Pro here... unbeatable by any other PC OS-s. However I've been thinking about a Mac lately...

Anybody having trouble burning things to a disc? I have a Win 7, as I said, with a Dell Inspiron 1545. I'm wondering if it's the OS or the computer. It just freezes in mid burn. huh.gif

If you want to run APPLE LOGIC, you pretty much have to run Mac OSX. LOGIC is amazing though so I've been pretty happy. I also use Garage Band for quick and dirty stuff and to collaborate with folks who aren't using logic. You can open Garage Band project in LOGIC.

For some reason, a large portion of "Music Folks" and "Film/Video Folks" run Macintosh rigs for their work and play (not everyone of course, and please let's not start a mac/pc thread). For those new to recording, as you go in to various studios and record, take note of what kind of gear they have and what type of software they are using. PRO TOOLS was king of the hill forever until LOGIC showed up and people started slowly converting. Kind of like AVID video editing was ruling the world for years until FINAL CUT PRO started taking over. I don't want to start a "Windows VS Macintosh" flame thread, as that is POINTLESS. But I would say if at all possible, try to get a starter mac, the cheapest macbook, imac, even Mac Mini at some point and a copy of Logic Express. It will help you out quite a bit as you grow as a musician and as an enthusiast recording engineer. I work with both Macs and Pcs but being fluent in the Macintosh operating system and in Logic has paid for itself many times over.

That being said, a PC with Reaper is all you may ever need personally. If that's the case, more power to you. But the more you know about hardware/software, the better off you'll be in terms of being able to work with people, studios, etc. It's all part of the learning process so try to take it all in.
