Hey guys! I found this article about Tom Morello who is working on his first solo album. I'm really curious to listen what he is working on since I think that he ha done amazing guitar stuff with his bands RATM and Audioslave.

This is what he said:

"I want to make the craziest guitar record that anyone's ever heard," "The idea is that this is the Hendrix of now."

Hendrix of now... sounds interesting... who do you think is the Hendrix of now?

I think Morello's pretty great and very innovative but it's dangerous and not a good idea for any guitar player to compare themselves to Jimi Hendrix. Sort of like comparing yourself to the Beatles, Sabbath or Zeppelin ... one always goes down in flames.

*Hendrix was a social and cultural phenomenon ... besides being an outstanding musician. For JH is wasn't about just being a guitar player. He was the whole package - entertainer, songwriter, innovator, fashion tastemaker, etc. ... he lit his instruments on fire and swung them, burning, into full stacks of amps while people watched in both horror and stunned amazement.
I don't know - a whammy pedal and some toggle switch action is pretty tame in comparison. But I'll buy the new record.

I always thought Morello's FX heavy style gave a unique flare to RATM, but it doesn't really compare to the innovativeness that was found in Hendrix's music. Sure, if you listen to a Hendrix record today, it may not be the most advanced thing out there, but for its time, I'm sure it was almost revolutionary in music.

I think that he shared the idea that inspired him to create his new album. I can imagine that he said... I will compose music that sounds like I think Hendrix would sound today... and I like this spirit. On the other side, I'll also wait for an album that represents "the best Tom Morello we have ever heard." smile.gif
