Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Kyuss Style by Gabriel Leopardi

Thanks for the feedback on my bending video. I've been working on this for a bit, but am going to move on to a soloing lesson as Ben recommended. I figured I'd take a crack at recording this one first. I wish the tone was better and the video was shot at night so the light isn't the best. I'm starting to notice small timing issues, but am not sure the best way to improve them.

Hey man! You need to make Your video "not public" instead of "private". Private is visible only for You. Not public - only for people who have a liunk or placec where You post it. Not public also is not visible in YouTube search. Please change the status on Your YT movie settings and we can try to help with Your take smile.gif

I think Darius meant 'Unlisted' unless the settings on Youtube have changed and I hadn't noticed it - I haven't uploaded something in a while now.. so that is an alarm sign. But as soon as you change the settings, we'll get back to ya and leave our suggestions, comments/grade.

All the best,

Cosmin

Great take, man !

Your timing was spot on, you captured the groove well.

The lead sections could flow a lot smoother yet. If you listen to Gabriel you'll notice how the movements that shift from one fret to another are seamless. In your version you can hear occasional pauses just before you hit the next note. There's nothing wrong with it as such, you'll naturally get better at making this stuff flow - it's just worth knowing about is all.

The bending is accurate. The semitone bend at 0:38 is walking right on the line of 'sharp'. Only just. You get away with it but to my ears it sounds a little out of control, due to an excess of bending power wink.gif

I'm always telling people to bend upwards on the G string during slow / medium bending but this is one occasion where I would actually bend the string downwards, just like Gabriel does in the video. I don't really know why we do it... sometimes it just feels right to bend the G down instead of up. I think it works better for when you need to make a brief, quick bend but upwards bending works better for accurate, controlled, longer bending. Try it and see what you think. It might help you nail that quick semitone easier ?

Hey mate,

I agree with Ben's observations, but as he says, these are the details that can make the difference! Your take sounds good as an overall ensemble.

Take them into account and implement them in the take while practicing it a bit more, not necessarily slower, as I don't think that this would be necessary, but practicing with a conscious mind on the details that Ben pointed out.

Nothing else to add here, so keep on rocking!

Cosmin
