Bridge is based on ceramic pickup and the neck i based on Alnico (I hope it's V, not sure - no specs). Can't wait to try them out. Those were custom made for Patrick Hufschmid by Kent Armstrong himslef (Not the korean ones, popular on the market). That's an awesome christmass gift! Look at that scocher wooden cases! Yeah, I can understand the trend for moving away from hi gain pickups.. but I would have thought the natural approach would be just to get regular output as opposed to low. Also high output pickups tend to give more unwanted feedback at live playing even if You take of some gain on Your amp to match the tone. You got more crunch of of those. I was always tought to play hard as hell so I usually feel more comfortable with less gain and winder dynamics response Todd...samples will be done for sure! I hope I'll find some time at christmass to rewire those in one of Hufschmids. The OTT and Rocker models that he usually uses are monstrual output pickups! They even have 3 ceramic manget pieces! (I'm sure cause it did unmount one to pieces. Now the good things about them - they are silent as hell (I think those were the most quiet pickups I ever had comparing to such a huge output level. But...why to change? I prefer fat and muddy amps like VH100R or Cornford (They are way more sensitive for the guitar You plug into, than 5150 or other "californian" high gain amps). Pickups with lower output give me less mudd under palm muted notes. I'm not too much a fan of using treble boosting before amp input. I know it changes dynamics and amp becomes much more friendly, easy to play or whatever but I hate what's happening with the softly played notes. If they're anything at all like the standard (vintage style) Kent Armstrong 12 pole piece pkup, the output is 'normal' for a traditional humbucker from the 50s and 60s. We just call that low these days compared to all the higher gain p'ups that are readily available. Having covers on - even metal covers - will slightly lower the output.
