GMC Forum _ THEORY _ Challenge : Learning Fret Notes In 7 Days

As I was browsing the web for my guitar quest I thought, well maybe id learn all the notes on the guitar.
So I can combine this with arpeggio shapes. I found several ways of doing this and thought I might share it here.
- Day 1 Learning the notes on the first ( thickest ) string , ( 6 string is the same, so you learn 2 strings 
yey )
- Day 2, repeating the notes from the first day ( e) and adding the fifth string (
- Day 3 repeating the notes from the first 2 days ( e string, b string ) and adding the fourth string. (g)
- Day 4 repeating the notes from the first 3 days ( e , b and g string ) and adding the third string (d)
- Day 5 repeating the notes from the first 4 days ( e,b,g,d ) and adding the second string (a)
- Day 6 Repeating all the 6 strings and focus on naming them verticallly
- Day 7 Repeating all the 6 strings and focus on naming them verticallly
I started today with day 1 , Ill let you know if it is do-able. who's in with me ?
DAY 1
- untill now I found it is easy to start with the whole notes on the first string
- I just think of a note, lets say g and I try to find it as fast as possible. You can also get a newspaper and the first letter
from a to g that you find, you have to touch on your fretboard.

On previous attempts, I've found it easiest to memorise the 5th fret first, followed by the 7th, 3rd and 9th. If I know those, I can just add or take away notes as a crutch.

That's how I learnt, there are still some hazy places that take a few milliseconds longer to get but I'm not bad

That's how I learnt, there are still some hazy places that take a few milliseconds longer to get but I'm not bad

I have a copy of Fret2Fret which is designed to learn you in a few hours not days.. its hard to come by aswell

Good challenge mates I could never learn the notes on the fretboard, just by memorizing them. I usually played and always thought about what notes I am playing. Whenever I tried to memorize the notes in another way, I gave up after maximum 5 minutes

So day 1 learned the e string, and tried the fretboard software, I hope to see progress, I had 63 good answers in 10 minutes.
Lets see the progress in a few days.
haha I read in a review fret2fret also uses fretboard warior
only for 30 bucks
Main components of Fret2Fret:
A Guitar and a Bass version of the Flash-based tutorial module.
Fretboard Warrior (A free, 3rd party application that can be a useful tool for memorizing the fretboard.)
EasyChord (Another 3rd party app)
Collection of Guitar Tabs - Probably the most valuable component of this package. (though undoubtedly infringing copyright law)

I am going to explain the fret2fret method, for free ! gmc style created, thanks to Tangomouse for the link
the idea is that you only learn the thickest string and if you have done that you learn these notes :
a = Alex Feather
b = Ben Higgens
c = Cosmin Lupu
d = (mr ) Dahl
e = Economic picking
f = Friends
g = Gabriel leopardi
Now, I hope you see where this leads to. now you can approach it on many ways, the fret2fret method uses the
way of using the thickest strings as a reference and then going down because it has the same formule :
A,D,G,C, F , A#, D#, G#, C#, F#,B,E
So they make a story of it that you can remember within an hour ( thats what it's about appearantly )
here we go :
Alex Feather is the newest instructor that was introduced by Mr Dah, Gabriel Leopardy was amused by this and called
Cosmin lupu who was practising with his friends. He was amused to say the least to hear that Alex Feather was introduced by Mr Dahl.
Meanwhile Gabriel heard that he came from Russia so he called Cosmin Lupu again, who was again practising with his friends.
As they were calling Ben was eating a donut while doing some economic picking.
Now as we can memorize this the method will be
Fifth fret
-e---A#
-b---F
-g---C
-d---G
-a ---D
-e ---A
This would be the use because Alex was introduced by Dahl and Gabriel called Cosmin who was practising with hies friends who was amused to hear that Alex was introduced.
But now comes (to me) the weak spot of this theory, because of the b string being different tuned
we have to lower the note with 1 full note at the b so this will be :
Fifth fret
-e---A#
-b---F -> E
-g---C
-d---G
-a ---D
-e ---A
Now if you know the first e string, you can memorize any note.

at the 5th fret on the B all you do is skip to the next person in the story......
Edit... Sorry got that wrong, what you would do, in the story you would be on F at the 5th fret on the B ,you take the letter that would natually be in front of it.. and 'E' is in front of 'F' so you would sub 'F' for 'E' and continue with the story from 'E' giving you 'A' on the e string at the 5th... if that makes any sense

Day 2 , I find that the fret2fret method is indeed learning you the notes in half an hour BUT,
you always have to go to the thickest string as a reference, so no go for me. Just sticking to the
strings.

I think within a day or 2 using fret2fret method you won't be using the E string as a ref... But I learn't another way which i think is easyer
I go by order and knowing the order is same as A B C D E F G, and know after A for instance there's always a sharp execpt after B or the E, Take the G for instance the order would be , G G# A A# B C C# D D# E F F# Then repeated ,its same for each string...
