Yes, yes smile.gif I am curious to know what sparked your curiosity and irreversible love towards the 6 string instrument.

My story? Mom is somewhat responsible for observing my interest towards rock and fueling it up with a few CDs back in 96. I can remember even now - A Metallica and Guns N Roses greatest hits biggrin.gif Well, I noticed Slash and... the rest is history tongue.gif

How about YOU?

I played classical guitar in music school and then when I was 14 years old I heard Killers and Powerslave of Iron Maiden biggrin.gif and I knew from the first song that I wanted to play these double guitar solos and that metal guitar. SO I used the money I got to buy an amiga 500 computer and bought an epiphone strat and a cheap little amp and that´s how it all started...

i just had an acoustic guitar in the corner that i really didn' care about in the beginning. One day my mom was wearing a t-shirt with a baby angel face, with the guns and rose name written in large letters, so one day i goggle it and the rest is history biggrin.gif

I basically made a deal with a friend that if they would take lessons, I would also take them. I was already playing piano at the time, and thought it might be fun to learn another instrument. They quit after about 3 weeks and I kept going, the rest is history. smile.gif

It was mainly the fact that there were guitars around the house and people would play them so it was inevitable that I'd eventually try it too. My interest in metal and rock coincided with it pretty well too smile.gif

My uncle was in a band called the Red Interiors, sort of a punk/progessive band believe it or not, and I was just watching him improvise to some music he was playing along to (quite effortlessly I might add) and thought "That looks like the funnest thing I've ever seen and I"m going to do that no matter what."

So that's always been my goal. To be able to play guitar as i'm not really playing so much as simply letting it happen. Later on when I was watching crouching tiger I hear one of my fav lines.

"True skill is effortless"

which made a lot of sense to me. The further along the crazy line you can practice, then even playing at half that level will seem pretty effortless. So pushing the upper limit has always been important.

My mother had this little parlor guitar that I used to pretend to jam out to the radio with and when I was around twelve years old or so convinced them to take me for a guitar lesson. It's weird if that guitar that neither one of my parents actually ever played hadn't just been laying around I probably never would have ended up finding something that I love so much.

Dave Murray of Iron Maiden.

Still to this today, is number one in my book. His tone, phrasing, and control is beautiful. He says in a few bars what musicians cant say in there entire lives.

Brave New World, is an album that defines me in a very strong way.

I always felt an intimate connection with music. When I was twelve I discovered that I wanted to play very badly. After a couple years of begging my father I finally got an acoustic guitar. I have been playing almost every day ever since.

Yeah, Dave's always had a great tone ! And he keeps surprising on each album and coming out with absolute gems of solos... that one in the middle of Isle of Avalon where he breaks into that sudden descending tremolo picked run biggrin.gif

This story is so close to mine... those were the bands (with the addition of Ramones, Queen and some local rock/metal bands)... and Slash the man who made me love the guitar at first. Then guys like Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Petrucci and Zakk Wylde made me love it even more! smile.gif

Im pretty much the same as you guys, when I really got into music, listening to the likes of alice cooper, crue and a bunch of 80s metal. It was really inspiring to the point that just listening wasnt enough...... I had to play it as well, there just didn't seem to be any other option!

although at first I kinda wanted to sing but I found it easier to keep a guitar in tune than keep my voice in tune.
