Problem Posting 2 Messages

Whenever I post 2 consecutive messages to a thread, they get merged into one post. A lot of times I want those to be separate messages, especially in a mentor thread. Is there a trick to get 2 consecutive posts to appear as 2 posts instead of getting merged into one?

Hey mate - I don't think it's possible smile.gif I have encountered this myself, but it didn't bother me, as I received a new email announcement for each new reply, even if it was merged, so it's cool with me - if Bogdan knows more, he can help you out for certain wink.gif

Yes - this is normal. If you post two messages in a short time interval, one after the other - they will automatically be merged together since they are by the same author. If the time has passed, a new message posted will appear as a new post instead of merging.

What was the time interval between two messages that you have posted and that got merged?

The interval was about an hour. If you want to merge them, you can do that by editing the first one. But if you post 2 separate replies, perhaps even to different people, it would be helpful to have the replies in separate posts to keep them distinct.

If you use the "quote" option and write the messages for each person after their comments, it can be easily understood. (like I'm doing in this repplies)

This happens to me when I do the posts with a few minutes of difference.

I'm not sure what you mean by "normal" smile.gif, but I don't recall ever seeing a forum that works that way. As annoyanances go, it's not that big a problem so don't worry about it if it's a difficult change to make. Having the kind of search feature one usually finds on forums would get my vote for a higher priority. There's a good reason why phpBB is so popular smile.gif.

Hehe - sorry when I said normal I meant that it was always setup to do it like that as it saves space on the pages and makes it easier to read in cases people forget something to add to the posts (so they don't become separate posts) etc. Of course that also has downsides as well.

When it comes to current search options available there are two ways you can do it :

* Directly via main GMC search : http://screencast.com/t/G1c5sc2Hd
* Via search located bellow individual boards : http://screencast.com/t/AJRS9d498uq9

Thanks. I'm just suggesting a more complete search capability, like one usually finds in forums, would be a welcome addition to GMC. For example: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/search.php?advanced
