I was reading an interview between Mark Menghi and Charlie Banante of Anthrax and found a statement of his quite cool.. cool.gif

MM: Being a metal pioneer, and a very influential drummer most people do not know you're an accomplished guitarist and write and record a lot of the guitar parts. What is your song writing process and what kind of gear helps you through that?

CB:
Someone once said this, and I don't remember who said it but, "Every guitar has a great song in it." I have a huge collection of guitars but, when I'm writing an Anthrax song, or whatever, There's always this guitar that I go back to. It's my old, 1980 Charvel Star Body. This is my brother, you know. It's just like my best Friend. when I play that guitar, stuff just happens! It just gives me this feeling that there are thousands of songs in that guitar. so I go back to it all the time.

Thought that was pretty cool.. smile.gif And this guy is a drummer! Any of you guys with multiple guitars feel the same way? Do you have that one go to Axe when your ready to write?

Interesting, I guess we all have favourite guitars that inspire us the most, or at least I want to believe that, that's why I'm getting a new axe soon tongue.gif, see what songs it contains hehe smile.gif

Great thread Skenny, and great comment Fran! I think that getting new guitars/synths/software is important to push those boundaries of creativity, just as coming home to an old friend, be it a guitar or whatever can be just as important - in the end, its whatever works for you!

I would agree that every guitar wakes up something different in a songwriter. If I am playing my acoustic guitar I always have ideas for ballads. When I take my Hamer, I can't think of anything else than rock. It does make sense what Charlie said. He is an awesome drummer too.

I dont think thats the situation for me. I do think though that Marshall/Mesa amps brings me lots of great riffs. So I guess amps works better for my situation haha.

Great insight Emir smile.gif I guess different instruments produce different feelings amongst different players. They can all be of high quality but produce a different mood.

Yep. It's true that each axe leads to different ideas. Though I am more experienced on acoustic guitar, so that's what comes out the easiest (ballads, pop or folk rock)

In order to enhance my creativity I just bought a keyboard. Let's see what I can get out of it!

It's true though.. When I play my acoustic I always play and write pop songs, and my Gibson tends to rock and roll while my ESP plays the riffin' griffin biggrin.gif
