Great thanks. How familiar are you with classical music forms, like sonata? I have this part of a song I have been working on and every arrangement I have tried just doesn't feel right, and today I thought about turning it into a sonata. A doom metal sonata. smile.gif Probably a bit ambitious, but I think it fits, and would be fun!

I have a BA in classical music and will definitely be able to help you out! Let me know what you need help with and I will be more than happy to explain everything in details! smile.gif

It is totally fine! It takes time to get it right! smile.gif But you are on the right track! I would love to hear what you came up with!

I'm trying to get something to post for you. It's more like bits and pieces at this point and I am still working on playing it as a whole. I like that it's challenging, means it's something I need to work on. I just get frustrated that some things take so long. smile.gif

That's very cool. When I was in high school I was not aware that you could go to school for guitar. In fact classical music and was partly the reason and inspiration for starting to play guitar again after so many years. This song below and the idea of composing a symphony somday inspired me to take up music again. I don't listen to a lot of classical music but it still fasinates me. I have the rhythm guitar and drums written for the exposition. Next time I have a chance to work on it I will post is it with some tabs or chord progressions. Hopefully I understand this section and have my modulations and things ok.

it is a good thing that it takes some time to get stuff right! Take your time with that!
Composing symphony type songs is pretty much the se as writing any other song it's all depends on arrangement you will me to understand how the voicings and intervals work I can help you with that if you would like
Let me know!

Hey Alex! I would like to learn anything and everything, so this would be great. Here is my improv, although I don't think it's really improvised. smile.gif I really had to write it out and practice it. It is not perfect, and has some issues, but it really got my fingers twisted up. What kind of monitors do you use, and how does the mix sound? I did not do alot but I'm always curious how something sounds through good speakers, I am just using some cheap headphones for now. Thanks!!!

Here is another take. A little smoother than the one above, I think. And I added some eq and double tracked it just for fun.

Thanks!!!!!!!This was really challenging and gave me a completely new way to look at things. I really like moving scales for each chord and how it sounded. I'm looking forward to your next assignment. smile.gif

Just to let you know my mentoring program will be closed from January 1st so the assignment I will give you will be really simple
I would like you to compose the whole solo for the same backing track!
Start with a simple melody and develop it towards the middle and then bring it back to the melody again!
Let me know what do you think!

My first thought when I read this was that I was hoping it was because you had gotten that gig! And I see your post in the other thread! I'm very happy for you. I have been working on this assignment and will get something up for you in the next day or so.
