Although I have no proof, I strongly suspect this performance might have been fake:

In both cases it was a similar story smile.gif The bands were told they had to use playback cues and could not play live. They were not happy about this and acted accordingly. Both bands are 'live bands" so making them do it "American Bandstand" style is a bit of an insult. The vocal track on the nirvana take was the only live mic and so he wrecked the vocal on purpose.

This is what we were talking about in a couple other threads. Rings of Saturn, various Instagram players, etc. IT's being used as a way to get more views/likes in some cases and make some players look like they've spent a bit more time in the woodshed than they have smile.gif

Fake?

And this is what you can do if you are faking and the song ends with fade out:

Break everything and run!

This just got interesting! He plays through some of the parts that he was accused of faking as well as explains some things.

Oh man, that's great!
Let the Instagram and Youtube guitar battles commence.

*It's cool that he (rings of saturn guy) actually can play it for real but 'live' or whatever it may be, it does sound like midi/guitar pro. But hey, if that's the tone he's goin for ... all good by me.

I do agree about the tone. He explains it being a harmony track that was heard in the very clean version of him playing it live, as the guy recording was standing right next to whatever was blasting the harmony track to Lucas on stage. Later on in the video there's footage from the live show which sounds less clean, I suppose.

With that said, it does sound guitar pro like, and fair enough if that's what they want. In some way I come to think of some of Muris' lessons that has a synth playing unison or harmony parts. I'm not dragging Muris' into this as such, but that's probably how I would have done the harmonies Rings of Saturn are doing live. Make it less Guitar Pro-like.

This keeps getting more and more elaborate as time goes on smile.gif

It looks like things may have got a little out of hand between these two. Here is Jared Dines apologetic video response. I think these guys may actually be friends of sorts, I know they have done a video together in the past, kind of a shred battle thing.

This next video is Jared Dines with Rob Scallon and is kind of a parody I guess of "faking it."

Good vids! It's become this huge thing somehow. Then again, I remember years ago we were talking about this same thing here on GMC and Rings of Saturn was the focus of the thread. I found the vid and it's below. Years later, it's come up yet again. This time it's gone viral in a bigger way it seems.

It is sad to see that so many folks now are getting called "fake" on youtube. Folks that can play really well are not immune to this type of name calling. I'm thankful that I've never been tagged as a "fake player" but then again I don't do too much inhuman stuff. Just shred a bit now and then smile.gif
I found the old vid from 7 years ago that I accused him of fakery for. I actually just went and apologized to him on his youtube page as I sorta feel bad about it. It's just a youtube vid after after all and I've seen him play amazing stuff.

*this video has comments turned off now probably due to all this drama.

this is a youtuber calling youtubers out. it's hard to say if any of these are actually fake. in the end it doesnt matter, it comes down to can you express yourself with your instrument. This has become a BIG THING on social media.

I do dig Lucas recent playthrough vids and I like the bands material. This one has spots that remind me of something I'd write.
