try to find a laptop with an intel Core I7 processor, that will allow you to do anything!

if i could do it again, i wouldnt get a laptop, they are just not convenient for anything but mobility. other than that, you just run into problems like over heating, battery life, non upgradable parts etc

look at alienware computers, they have their new i7 laptops starting at 799 USD

I will say ACER laptops in general, they have a low price vs. the performance imo. , but has still some quality, even that ASUS, SONY and others have more sturdier chassis....

+1 Victor, we have been using a lot of Dells in our companies during the years and never had any serious problems with them, and their customer support is also excellent. Forgot to mention them above.

Hey,
Dell is really good value for money, only the battery is something that does not last long. Usual battery life is one year. They have very good customer service. ACER in my opinion is low quality. But, for 1000$ you can think of lenovo thinkpad t500 with 4 gb. It comes around 950 bucks. But, the life of these laptops from battery to everything else is uncomparable. They just seem to last forever, they usually are phased out only because of higher software requirements. If you stick to a particular OS then these are the laptops to have.
