We have had a couple of posts were people are saying "hey love the solo stuff but I need some chords" well here they are...

For more intermediate players - this lesson also features the easiest way of defining/understanding musical keys on the guitar - in my opinion. This is perhaps the most important theoretical discovery I have ever made.

hi just watched the beginner video lesson
i think that is a good base to have new players playing some cool stuff in a short while
that's why we al started out right
being able to play those power chords i think is very motivating if you just starting since everyone uses them and you can do a lot off cool things with them
and it can get you hungry to learn more and realy be motivated
and it's a good thing even for more advanced players to who might be looking more into solo stuff to keep them in mind

Hi, I'm new around here and very new to the Guitar so I apologise if this is a silly question. I've just watched and been trying the Power Chords lesson and what I would like to know is when playing this should I be using my amp in distort mode? I have tried both clean and distort methods and distort sounds closest however I wasn't sure if this is just due to me only having a cheap practise amp.

Hey thre Chefsolid and welcome!

Great question - if you want to go for the sound I have in the video I suggest the distortion mode. If you want to go for a little softer, not so aggressive sound, go for the clean mode!

Hi chef,

I just joined the site also, and have only been playing guitar for a month or two.

Kris already explained it, but I would like to add some information about equipment.

I first bought a cheap guitar/amp combo to make sure I enjoyed it. Later I bought a Line6 guitar port for tons of cool tones and amp models (specific amp emulation Marshall J800, etc) and then bought an Ibanez RG350.

What's my point? My point is the cheapy amp/guitar sounded quite a bit off from the excellent metal sound you hear from Kris's strat & Parker (that is a parker right?) which was a little discouraging for me... but when I got my Ibanez & Line6 amp modeller (just played through my ~$200) computer speakers, the tone is much closer, and dare I say, almost exact to what the instructors get. Now that I have the right tone, I just need to work to get the technique. Hmm, wish me luck with that!
