After almost a whole year practicing scales and GMC lessons I thought it was time to give some real songs a try, so I took a tab of maiden's fear of the dark, and much to my surprise I can play all except the solos (which I haven't tried, but I suspect will be beyond my reach).
It's exciting being able to play almost the whole thing, so I wonder if this is one of maiden's easiest songs, and I'd like to know which other easy ones are there, to learn as many as I can. I *love* maiden, and it's a blast to play their riffs. I will eventually try the solos too.
Hallowed be thy name
Trooper
Run to the hills
2 minutes to midnight
The number of the beast
Children of the Damned
The Pilgrim
Brighter Than a Thousand Suns
(the latter 2 are from their latest Matter of Life and Death album). These are my favourites, along with Hallowed Be Thy Name.
The intro riff of their song Iron Maiden is cool too.
Basically Maiden's rythm guitar parts aren't too difficult, however if you handled them so easily means you are well prepared to tackle "real" songs from now on...
Rock on!
The trooper is a good song to play and good practice for galloping rhythm.
I almost never pick out a solo note by note from a tab. I think that's useless really and a waste of time. The tab hasn't got any signatures for note length so I think it's better to listen and try to repeat. Pick up the tab when your ears can't figure out the note but only then. But that's me and I did my struggeling with solo tab so belive me, training your ears and play as good as you can is way better. Doesn't have to be exact. The important thing IMHO is to get the key notes on, then you could play half or one third of the notes and still make it sound like the original solo.
if I remember right Prowler isn't that hard. I must confess I havn't played that many of their songs though
Awesome, many thankd for the suggestions and advice guys.
I'm going to be bussy now. Really bussy
My first Maiden song was Powerslave and I think its a easy maiden song to learn.
well, most of the maiden songs aren´t too difficult but so much fun to play (up the irons!!)
flight of ikarus
powerslave
the trooper
stranger in a strange land
or the opening riff of 2 minutes to midnight
its really great to learn iron maiden songs cause you can really freak around while playing... if you look at the solos, its always very interesting to hear the differences between adrian smith and dave murray (janick doesn´t count for me).. and there are some good solos to learn that aren´t too tricky (trooper, powerslave, aces high).
The first one I learned was Wasted Years. Cool intro
My first one was fear of the dark too, I really like their work from, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time and Seventh son of a Seventh son
I'll add to the list
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Deja Vu
The evil that men do
When I was starting guitar, the first maiden song I learned was Different World, I suggest that one
Nice, most of the songs you guys listed are classics, it's good to hear they are suitable for my level. It's going to be a blast playing all of them
Total Eclipse and The Prisoner are fun ones.
Wasting Love from the Fear of the Dark Album is probably the easiest Maiden song ever. I love it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFiKjmFvN08 Even I played the solo, so you will be able to too!
The first song I learned from them was Transylvania, instrumental from ther first album. At the time, I had the song on an SP record (45) and I used to play it on LP speed (33) to slow it down and learn it by ear, since we did not have tabs and stuff
The Trooper, Wrathchild, Running Free, Children of the Damned, Prowler...
Hallowed by the name, trooper and run to the hills are songs that I recommend, easy enough and good for practicing some classic riffage
Is there a hard Maiden song to play All are doable but some solos are harder to pull off than others like Holy Smoke.
I second Two Minutes To Midnight. First maiden song I ever heard, ive got it all down but the solo, so much fun to play!
Maybe Wicker Man ?
I think we need a HUGE Iron Maiden collaberation.
Seriously.
Like 20 of us playing on it.
\m/ \m/
UP THE IRONS!!!!
The Wicker Man is a good and easy one and fun to play
Hey im a bit late to reply but i definately gota say that Deja Vu (as Jose Mena suggested) is one of the easiest maiden songs i have come across, first one that i learnt in full (the begining solo is realy easy too ). Awsome sounding riffs in it too
If you know their version of the song "Woman in uniform" is not too difficult, as a fact I think it's the easiest one they made. Apart from that I can also recommend "Different World" and "The Wicker Man" (as the guys already said), maybe not the solo but the riffing is pretty simple. "Wasting Love" isn't too hard either, it was the first full Iron Maiden song I learned with solo too, I recommend it too.
-Up the irons-
I would tried "Invaders" thats an easy song for both guitar and bass UP THE IRONS
After fear of the dark I've learnt the trooper and today I started working on Hallowed be thy name, it's great playing these classics I've been listening to all my life!, I can play the whole song along with the original songs, except the solos.
By the way I have a list and all your suggestions are in it, its a matter of time till I manage to play them all. Everything but the solos!, I'm afraid they are beyond my reach yet. I tried a bit the ones of the trooper, and they are so fast!, they seem to combine really fast repetitive legato licks. I'll put some time on the solos in the future, but only after I've learnt some more songs.
