Hi guys!
I don't know if this has been posted here before (Im quite sure that it has not) but I found this great tutorial video
on how to record a good metal tone. It's basically a dude explaining a lot of different aspects of how to get a good metal tone on your recordings. There's a lot of great tips and tricks, he even shows many different mic positioning possibilities on a guitar cabinet. Check it out!
Here's the link:

Good video highly informative, but I think he's being just a touch nit-picky about everything. I doubt Eddie Van Halen recognizes half the thing he talked about, and his tone sounds awesome. I might just be making a mountain out of a molehill though.
Hey Toni thanks watching it now . Unofrtunatly there's no chance of me getting a tube amp anytime soon lol
Thank you for the link Toni, just watching it
Thanks for the video it was really helpfull!
Yeah i don't record with an amp at all i record directly wit PODxt, which i know isn't going to sound as good as an amp but it's all i can do at the moment
Interresting..
Thanks for sharing
No problem guys!
Hey that's great, thanks for sharing!
thanks for sharing !!! I'm gonna watch it
thanks for the link..
I'll check this out when i get home in an hour- quite annoying as im at a shcool computer and the earphone jack is at the back, so in order to listen i have to flop across the table with my head by the tower as my earphones dont reach so far-
wel that may have been off topic but i need to defend my honour.....people will be giving me weird looks if i start doing that.....
They're watching you Neo.....
Thanks for sharing Toni, nice link
I can tell that this guy is very knowledgable, but man is he annoying. He goes into sooo much detail about everything. He seems to be a bit of a gear snob too. I wish he would mention that sometimes you dont want to use a tube amp, or sometimes you want to try other mics. It might give you the sound your looking for.
overall a very informative video. just hard to watch all in one sitting.
Great video! Thanks for posting.
Great stuff, should only be divided into smaller videos...
I specially liked the miking stuff. It is not intuitive at all.
Actually first time I played live I used line output of amp instead of miking it
thanks Toni ..very useful
thanks for sharing
What does he mean by a passive pick-up ?
nice vid, but the guy is paranoic, after hearing half of the video, it seems like the more it's expensive the better it is ... and change strings every 3 - 4 hours !! is he serious about that !! We don't have to be a millioneer to have a great tone, you just have to be a good player, and everything will sound good when you'll play it .... for example
hmmm... yes you know who I'm talking about : Muris with his pandora ^^
so usefull!!! thx!
Thanks for sharing, Toni. I must disagree with some his information though. I would say that the technology is so good today that in the studio most people can't tell the difference between a properly set up modeling tone vs. tube amp. Marcus Lavendell can fool anyone with his tone. He's got the best tone I've ever heard and it's PodXT!
Live is a different situation though. No substitute for a great tube amp in my opinion.
I'm happy that you guys found the link useful. I too disagree with some of the aspects that he is saying, but there's still so much good information about the "basics" that I still find this video very useful
Thanks for sharing, worth a view without a doubt.
Thank you for posting the video! I really liked the use of the tubescreamer pedal. It really gave it a wider spectrum of sound.
LOL at the string changing and pick up advice!Apart from that very usefull.I use a SM57 on position 3 in a big room with tube amps and they sound fine.I might get some foam out and do as he does to see how it sounds
Thanks for the clip:)
To the players out there who use a lot less gain check out this usefull page to hear it all in mellow tones

Great vid, thanks for sharing.
Watched about eight minutes of it, while he sounds like he knows what he's talking about, he does indeed sound somewhat of a "gear-snob" as someone said before me.
Yeah.
While I did get a couple of useful things from that dude, I did spend most of the time wanting to punch him.
