GMC Forum _ Gabriel Leopardi _ British Metal Video Collab 2

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Dec 19 2012, 04:49 PM

Hey guys!!! You won't believe this but we have the 2 part of the British Metal Collab!!!!!!!!!! This time I have a backing based the legendary band of Lemmy!!!

If you have been on the first one, you can't miss this new one,,, and if you didn't.... what are you waiting????

This is the final video of the British Metal Collab 1:

Here you have the new backing that starts in E minor and modulates to A minor in the verse.

 British_Metal_2_130_bpm.mp3 ( 1.86MB ) : 395

This is a video collab. Please post the files and links to files in this thread to make everything easier and remember to allow downloads in Soundcloud!!

Deadline: January 4th

Who is in??? smile.gif

Important Info:

This is a "video" collab, so I will need audio & video from you. You should be sending exactly these 3 files:

Audio File 1: This file must be a mix of your solo and the backing track.
Audio File 2: This file must be only your guitar solo (no backing)
Video File: Video of you playing the solo. (audo isn't important in this one, it can be the one that the camera captures)

How to send the files? The best way for me is using "Wetransfer.com" and sending the files to [email protected]

Let me know if you have any other question about how to participate!

I liked the British collab 1 backing just a bit more, but in this one there is a possibility of a longer solo take.
I'll see what I can come up with for this.

Any due date?

You are so fast mate!! Good first idea.... try to concentrate on creating more melodies over this and also some rocker bends.

Remember this:

from 00:00 to 00:18 : Use E minor scale
from 00:18 to 00:25: Use A minor scale
from 00:25 to 00:33 : Use E minor scale
from 00:33 to 00:40 : Use A minor scale
from 00:40 to 00:48 : Use E minor scale

And try to focus more on minor pentatonic scales.

I don't think I really like this, but here it is. Seems to me that I keep getting lag in my recordings.... Should be getting a PreSonus soon, hopefully that'll fix it..... thought I doubt it'll help my playing ability... LOL

How do I keep it interesting?

Well, everything sounds cool until the chord A appears... I think that there you could go more rocker and use rocker pentatonic licks, bends, double strings and fury. The bend that you always do over A reaches the note B, that's not a good note choice over that chord since it's a 2nd.
Try bending a D to E, in the 3rd string, fret number 5 to 7.

I could tell what you had in mind for that, it was cool like an eerie lumbering undertone. Maybe you could start off like you did, then rip into something fast like some fast trills or speed picking to keep it interesting. I always try stuff like that just because I like trying odd things together and somehow end up doing something that other people think sounds good.... somehow. Keep it up man!!

I've been recording tonight.
I tried the bend you suggested, but I still got 15-20 seconds in there sounding so bad, that I don't want it in the collab.

Maybe I can just do a video of the first 22 seconds? That will cover both rythm parts

Posted by: Todd Simpson Jan 5 2013, 05:35 AM

I tried to throw some semi "Out Of Control" lickage in to my solo to give it a bit more of an organic/loose/Motorhead quality. At least for the first few bars, then I put a bit more traditional Shred in it!! I threw in a crazy

PINKY STRETCH lick we are going to learn in this WEEKENDS VIDEO CHAT!!!!

Here are the audio bits. Video to follow!

BONUS FILES smile.gif

Here is the LOGIC 9 project file with all 8 previous takes and the final take. If you have logic, you can see how each take that didn't get used sort of leads to the eventual take that did get used. I was looking at this project and thinking it would be informational so I thought I'd share it!!! If you do listen to it, notice how BAD/SLOP/CRAP most of the previous takes are as I"m sort of finding my way through the solo. This is actually how I usually do it. Just hit record and rinse/repeat til it starts working.

Many thanks Ulrik!!! Thanks for checking out the vid man smile.gif Gabs backings are SOOOOOOOOO much fun to solo over.

I really do prefer working with backings that I don't write as I'm just not as good at writing them as Gab and Ben. My backings work as rythms but they are not often this fun to solo over! I'm trying to learn from the Masters!!!

Hello guys! This is the final mix and video for the British Metal Collab 2!!! I want to thank everybody that participated on this new collab! I enjoyed this process a lot and the final video and mix are killer!!

HFH & WeePee: You guys are awesome! Your guitar duet is pure magic. You tones and licks really fits together. This new way of participating in collabs that HFH is starting to use is so cool. Thanks for experimenting and for this great participation!

MrRoberts: Wou!! You solo is like an explosion mate! I like how it starts and my attention keeps on during the whole solo. Thanks for you great job!

Slavenko: Hey mate! It’s cool to see you again in my collab!! I like your composition, it’s very unique for my ears. I can see an improvement in your solo composition, so you are on the right track. Keep on joining collabs!

Todd: Yeahhh I love your tone and your solo on this one. It’s a KILLER take. Your fast licks are so smooth. Thanks for your magic.

TheGroot: Great playing mate! I like those long notes and noises at the beginning of the take, and then those fantastic licks that we are used to hear from you. Thanks for joining again mate!

TonyK:
Hey mate! Your playing is very unique on this take. I think that your composition is cool, and that is just needs some technique adjustments and maybe a bit more definition in the last phrases.

Ulrik: I liked your attitude of joining the collab in spite of having a shorter solo! Sometimes we are not in a creative day and that’s something normal. And also let me say that this is not an easy backing to solo over it! Thanks for your take mate! 

Vonhotch: Hi mate! I like your solo! You rocker like Maiden over a Motorhead style collab so you really captured the British metal vibes! Well done!!

Sure thing! Here is a link to a zip file that has the REAPER project and all the audio files. Just double click on the archive to extract then open the folder and doubleclick on the reaper file (.rpp) I"ve got all the tracks but FINAL solo and BACKING muted so you will a BIG RED M. For each track you want to preview, unmute it and mute the one you don't need to hear anymore. I think I have 8 takes before I liked one enough to keep it, and that was after adlibbing for about 2 hours prior to recording. It's a very organic process usually. Almost like improv jazz smile.gif

Here is the link to download.

NOTE: YOU"LL NEED THE OVERLOUD TH1 DEMO as that's what I"m using for fx.

You meant to say "manure" guy didn't you? ROFL!!

biggrin.gif

Thanks guys! I was inspired by all of you guys... especially when I submitted my first take and then saw what you guys were throwing out there I knew I either had to step it up or back out and save the embarrassment... Especially when I posted the first take and Gab said "really? that's your take? That sucks!" Ok, I'm paraphrasing a bit, but I knew what he meant... LOL!! Easy Gab, I'm joking... a little. laugh.gif

I'm with WP... when's the Brit Collab part III?

TONE PATCH: Forthcoming!

I created a Custom Guitar Patch in OVERLOUD TH1 just for this collab and I'm glad you liked it GAB! I wanted to make a "wet/effected" tone that still had enough bite to cut through the mix. I"ll be sharing the patch in this weekends VIDEO CHAT session.

As for the overall collab vid, FREAKING WOW!!!!!!! Everyone nailed their takes and the styles of play/solo construction was amazing. Everyone pulling so many elements together and making it all work. Great job guys and great collab GAB!!!!

That was certainly a KICK A$$ solo from Todd as well... I the instructor guys get ignored cause they are supposed to already be godly like... but it certainly catches my attention every time and I think I saw 10 pinkie fingers playing that lead too and all on the same hand! biggrin.gif

Priest or Saxon are great suggestions... you know, if there is ever another sequel I'll be in! The perfect way to hear those duo harmonies too biggrin.gif
