Hehe, I know this problem, sometimes I am working on some ideas, and at some point they start to sound familiar, but I can't tell what it is... that's the moment when the idea gets buried

Most likely you will recall the "original" as soon as you stop trying to find out about it

Putting some original vocals/lead melody on top of it would make it your original I believe. The signal was really badly clipped.

There are tooo many riffs with similar idea, walking 5th, min 6th and 4th over fixed root,
I believe you can avoid familiar sounding (if you want) by changing rhythm pattern, rhythm changes everything. -------------------- Youtube

Yeah I noticed a lot of times in my playing that changing rhythm even just slightly completely alters the sound... it's actually really cool That's the power of rhythm indeed. If you analyze some epic melodies (like Jingle Bells per example) you'll notice that rhythm is actually what's more important and not notes (pitch), Scott Henderson explained that nicely in one of his tutorials tho, you keep playing same rhythm with different notes and it still reminds of same "melody". -------------------- Youtube
