Probably arpeggios,yeah,
arpeggio is a chord but played note by note,
used a lot in soloing tho. smile.gif

yeah i know what arpeggios are but im saying most of the licks have the notes of the chord (arpeggio) and some additional. does that still be an arpeggio?? and when you add some more notes to a riff based of Am chord, does it still be an arpeggio of Am chord??

Well if you add a note or two
that could be arpeggio as well,
min 7 or even min 7/9.
Point is,you have to know chord's notes
and notes inside of a scale to determine
if that's arpeggio that you're playing. smile.gif

Do you have some example of what you're thinking about
that I could eventually might help with?

Just post a tab here and we'll go through it step by step. smile.gif

like in your "extreme neo-clasic" lesson here's the tab for the beginning

Am
S S S S S S S S S S S S S
E||-------------------------------------------
B||------------------------------------------
G||------------------------------------------
D||-----------14-12-14----14----14----14-
A||--12-14-15----------15----14----12----
E||-------------------------------------------

its a little bit off sad.gif but see the 1st riff's chord is Am and it has the notes A-C-E but it has also the notes B-D so i know that the other notes are from the scale. so the only thing you have to do to base a lick off a scale is use the arpeggio PLUS some notes off the scale??

I see what you mean. smile.gif
There are notes A-C-E which creates Am chord
but they are not played in row to get an arpeggio,
you must play them one after the other to do that.
Later in this lesson you'll have lot of arpeggios but not here,
this is just a lick containing pedal tone E,
that repetitive tone on D string,14th fret. smile.gif
