GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Guitarists From Your Country

Posted by: Robin Sep 23 2007, 11:07 AM

I'm pretty sure there are hidden guitarists all around the world, some may not be popular outside their own country. So, why dont we show eachother guitarists from our own country, that arent world famous.

Here are some awesome norwegian guitarists:

Bjørn Berge(Blues) - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HgxuEBESBPc&mode=related&search=

Øystein Sunde(Country, sort of) - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sAyTP5neFiU

Vidar Busk(Blues) - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-dOfh0uJnHw

Hallgeir Pedersen(Jazz) - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IvE-DWqPr5Q

If I can remember any more I'll add them later tongue.gif

From the UK:

http://www.simeonharris.co.uk/. Great, and much underrated player.

A great guitar player whom I played with many years ago (sorry don't think he has a web presence) was Alan Limbrick - he went on to open the UK's Guitar Institute. I think nowadays he lives in Oz.

Cheers,
Tony

maybe before you were born.

edit: let me rephrase that. If I have your age right (or just about), long before you were born.

their first American album was great, really it was a greatest hits album, as they had been in Britain having some success for awhile before that. His guitar work was great for the time on that, and quite unique. After that they released a second, which I felt was pretty weak. After they they started putting out the big hits, and then became household names.

Everyone knows Neil Young (some even remember when he was with David Crosby and Graham Nash), Some might not know Jeff Healy, he is blind but a really good guitarist(the band in the movie Roadhouse). I'm sure everyone has also heard of Bryan Adams. As for Colin James, I'm betting he fits the bill here. I had never heard of him and had to look him up on the internet smile.gif.

Here is a new band from a small city in Canada. The lead guitarist/singer and rhythm guitarist came from an acoustic guitar only band called "An Acoustic Sin." Now they are playing rock. Their CD release party is on Oct 19th and I can't wait to see the show :

There are only two (older generation) guitar musicians from my country that I can say that are world class, and one of them is not even my country anymore its from former yugoslavia, but I will put him on my list because he was a great influence by me when the country was still one.

Hey. Very good thread. I am checking it one by one. If we think a little about it, we don't know most of the good music of the world just because of the language. Here we can show each other.

I am a brazilian and I will start by one that I name amongst my favorite 5 guitarists: Augusto Licks (former Engenheiros do Hawaii). A guy that has licks even on the name can´t suck right? tongue.gif He worked on every and each part of the song seeking perfection. And he did a perfect fit for the lyrics . He could go from electric: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TMh-ccDv_Y to a perfect blend to an orchestra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoF8GB7xXp0 . It is such a pity he is not playing anymore.

Kiko Loureiro (Angra) - though I guess he is world famous?- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLKEhP4QuIY

Edgard Scandurra (Ira) - quite hard to play his riffs because he is left handed - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SqRTQNbu_A

Eduardo Ardanuy ( Dr. Sin ) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzUoZtcTYSI

Armandinho, playing a modification of guitar that we call guitarra baiana http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDnECo8Fzjs

And finally, the guy I was taking classes: Bruno Albuquerque ( . This video won a 30 second contest by guitar factory Tagima: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDK_c7jpUJA . And he playing instrumental rock(he composed): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuA5k1bsi4g
