Same thing people said in the late 50's when they came out with the Les Paul. Gibson always has come up with creative designs. With any such company, some ideas work, some don't. The key element is the construction and physical design here, not the colors. I expect they wanted to do something outlandish to get attention for marketing purposes, they can always tone it down. I have a Firebird, and that has a neck made of laminated hard wood. It is very beautiful, with natural colors of the woods contrasted against each other. And it is a very stable and durable design, to use laminations of hard wood rather than one solid piece.
