Did The Yearly Subscription To Gmc Really Go From $90 To $228 All At Once?, I can't afford it anymore...guess this is goodbye.

I had to let my subscription run out a few months back due to loosing my job from the poor economy and just not being able to afford anything extra because I have a family to support. I really enjoyed GMC and learned a lot using it so my family gave me $90 for my 29th b-day on Friday just so I could sign back up for GMC...I went happily to the computer today only to see that the yearly rate had risen from $90 to $228. I love some of the instructors material and I think they should get payed well for what they offer but raising the rates this much at once is not good business in my opinion. If the yearly rate had risen to say $110 I would have been like, "what the hell!", and probably payed it anyways. GMC you have alienated me and I have to say there will be many more like me to come if you don't fix this soon. I urge you not to delete this post and actually listen to the feedback from the people that made this website a success. Thanks for listening to me gripe. ~earthling

I was about to let my subscription go, but then I heard the change and that existing members will have the current price still. Though it's really still a spending that is weighing down in the economics (as I should probably be cutting down on a lot of other things as well), I will be clinging on to it for as long as I can with my current price.

I would not sign up with the new price though.

I have been a member since January of 2007.Even with the price hike I think that GMC is well worth the money.
With that said,I will not pay the new price. If I don't have the money say the day my dues are do,I will have to pay
the new price, and I don't agree with that.I will seek private lessons if that happens. The number of members, and
instructors has grown alot since I first subscribed. The site is always getting better, but I just can't afford the new
price. mad.gif

any growing business needs to capital to survive and expand, but the price hike of 253% will be hard to swallow for a lot of people. It makes GMC probably the most expensive on the net which is a really big ask for most people, most members will be younger and probably cant justify the extra cash, I think we have already lost valuable contributors.
Question is, is it worth it? Well, if you are constantly recording REC, in the MTP and doing lesson series as well then yes, however if you are looking for specific content and are not utilising the full site then the answer would be no.
There should definitely be more flexible ways to pay such as paying for individual lessons, paying for lesson series, limited access membership etc, this way GMC would not alienate its own market and remain, as it always has, at the forefront of web tuition.

If this is a question then the answer is yes! smile.gif

This topic isn't really open for debate and has been announced well in advance to for old time members to be able to resubscribe in time before the raise (see this thread).
