I just bought a new Gretsch for $500+ and its a spectacular guitar for me, I love the tone and its really easy to play. But, the only problem is the Bigsby Trem. on the guitar. Trying to do bends or using the whammy at all seems to detune the guitar. Any suggestions on how to remedy this? Any help would be appreciated. ph34r.gif

Is it double locking? Check to see if you have slippage at the nut. Bend each string around the tuninng peg. If it changes the pitch, you may just need to tighten a little more.

I don't think a Bigsby was designed for doing a lot of major bending/whammy bar. One thing that might help though is to make sure that the strings aren't binding at either end - nut and bar.

Personally I'd avoid taking off the bigsby if you can as it may devalue your guitar if you fit another that doesn't have the Gretch type vibe. Although you could always refit it at a later date provided you don't do any major surgery to the Gretch .

Robin posted a link to a company that make vibratos for Gibson LPs a while back that might be a solution for you. Can't remember the name but if you search on Robin you should be able to find the link. Or Robin might notice the post and re-link it.

Cheers,
Tony

You could always try some schaller locking tuners?

Bigsby trem bridges are not designed to do dive bombs, they only slightly vary the pitch. Surf music used them alot for "shaking chords" like a vibrato pedal.
I think they were designed for people who like their guitar way out of tune...I mean the further the better. Just one touch of that huge chrome bar and you get instant horror. I think that they look super cool but man what an engineering abortion.
