Hello guys!! Welcome to my new collab!

This one is based on a Post-Hardcore / Metal / Punk backing track in D minor that I've recorded for a lesson. As we did on the previous collab, the idea is to continue experimenting with both guitar solos and vocals to create a full song together.

Backing track: Attached File  Post_hardcore_backing_track_190_bpm.mp3 ( 3.64MB ) Number of downloads: 718

Chord progression:

Intro: Cm | Cm | G | G | G# | G# | G | G# G | (x 2)

Verse: Cm | Cm | G | G | G# | G# | G | G# G | (x 2)

Pre-chorus: Fm | Fm G# | G | G |

Chorus: Cm | Cm | G | G | G# | G# | Fm | G |

Ending riff: Riff in Cm

Tempo: 190 bpm

Guitar Solos info:

Beginners:

If you are a beginner at improvisation and soloing, you can use C minor pentatonic scale to play over this backing.

Intermediate / advanced:

If you have more experience you can use C minor scale but with the exception that you need to switch to C harmonic minor every time G major is sounding.

As you can see in the graphics the only difference between both scales is the 7th note (Bb or B ). An easier way to solve this problem would be to avoid playing this note every time G sounds in the backing, but I strongly recommend you to experiment with this idea.

Vocals info:

Feel free to record clean or screaming voices for this one. We also need lyrics for this so everything is welcome to build the song. Please share your ideas in progress, demos or whatever can help to make this one grow.

Audio & Video Files:

This is both an audio and video collab so I'll need your audio files (mp3 or wav) and also a video of you playing and/or singing. About video files, you can upload them here, or use soundcloud (remember to allow downloads!) and please share two files, one with your guitar only and another one with the mix of your guitar and the backing track.

DEADLINE: December 2th (20 days)

FINAL RESULT:

Hello everybody! Here I'd like to share the final mix and video!! smile.gif

Congrats and thanks everybody for this tune that combines English and Spanish lyrics in the same GMC song for the first time!

List of participants:

- Huargo (Vocals and Guitar Solos)
- Gabriel Leopardi (synth and rhythm guitar)
- Bleez (guitar solo)
- Kristofer Dahl (vocals)
- fzalfa (guitar solo and arrangements)

Some comments:

Bleez: Thanks for your guitar solo! As you can notice in the final mix I moved it to the intro section which has a similar backing and it fits great there too. I like how you could make a rocker solo sound good and modern over this backing track. Well done!

Huargo: Your work has been really good on both vocals and guitar takes. Your voice reminds me to Mars Volta, maybe mostly because of your pronunciation. I noticed some tuning issues but I fixed them with auto-tune for the mix. Your solo is also really cool, and could be used for an instrumental version of this track. Well done!

Fzalfa: Thanks for your take! I liked you solo for this one. It had many cool parts but I have chosen my favorites for the final mix. One little thing that I’d like to comments is that your distorted solo on this one is a bit noisy and maybe some high frequencies adjustment can help. I would also try to get a cleaner tone for this kind of solos. You lose dynamics with that amount of drive.

Post-hardcore and punk? Yes please!!
I'm up for lyrics, vocals and will see about a guitar solo.
Right now, I can only think of lyrics about monkeys. I have no idea why...

Hi Laurent, the idea is on the right track but there are many parts in which you play wrong notes that doesn't sound good with the backing (out of scale). Remember that you can use C minor scale everywhere except over G chord where you have to switch to C harmonic minor.

Couldn't stop myself so I ended up recording some vocals! biggrin.gif I tried a more relaxed recording approach, singing with an sm57 in my normal chair and desk infront of the computer. (usually I will be jumping all over the room screaming my lungs out).

Also there should be room for scremo overdubs and other fun stuff. And maybe some guitar melodies in unison with vocals?

Awesome vocals Kris!! Cool lyrics and melodies! We have a great starting point here!

I think that we have now place for more vocal melodies and vocals but it will be also helpful for me to have some screamo vocals singing the same than Kris to add power here and there. The more stuff I receive the cooler the song will be so please keep on sharing stuff guys!

Guitar melodies going unison in the chorus is also a great idea.

This will be killer!! biggrin.gif

Cool Laurent - I think your solo is musical has a direction. I would like to see you work on your vibrato.

We need it a bit slower and wider, it is currently very fast and narrow. Think Yngwie vibrato rather than Kirk Hammet.
