Theres a great video on youtube where he explains the whole dynamic to his picking. The greatest way to achieve it is to look at how your thumb is positioned, the more you bend your thumb, the more angled the pick will get (getting closer to PG's tone) while the more your straighten it out, the easier it will be to play fast, but the same dynamics wont be given....
Lemme find that vid... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpJNUGHxC3M long one but watch it all! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YvsOKTPaks...feature=related Another short vid by PG Good luck, this is the style of picking i love -------------------- Crysis kicked arse. Gears of War unfortunately I thought was as good as wiping cottage cheese on a cat's head Hahahaha just imagine the cat hahahah The thing about being really stupid, is that there are a zillion ways to be a moron. There are usually several ways to be intelligent, given a situation, but it is a small finite number. But there are always a zillion ways to be to blithering idiot. So finding a new way to have the intellect of an artichoke is nothing to be proud of really, it is easy to do. So true... To bad im still an artichoke haha |

If seen those vids and there excellent Thanks for sharing. He's changing the angle to get more different sounds from his picking, wise approach tho. Yeah it seems that its easier to do fast runs down the neck with the one angle but it seems harder to do those fast licks that paul plays in the first video Sami posted with that same angle -------------------- Join Me On the Lyrics Board !

You should be able to change the angle to produce different sounds, I like Eric JOhnsons picking technique explanations, they are a bit better then Pauls.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACH5Z_YPmVg Eric Johnson's explanation, I've gotta agree with ivan its great
(i am a little confused about the bounce technique though, could some one explain this?) This post has been edited by Sami: Oct 23 2008, 01:07 PM -------------------- Crysis kicked arse. Yeah it seems that its easier to do fast runs down the neck with the one angle but it seems harder to do those fast licks that paul plays in the first video Sami posted with that same angle That is just a result he likes to get here and there, many players play with just one pick angle and there is nothing wrong with that. Exploring is what you should do, to get more experience with those angles and to see if you really need them at all, that's personal preference. -------------------- Youtube

I think Paul Gilbert's picking is awesome, my favorite for shred, very aggressive and dynamic, sounds killer. Johnson's is awesome too, but it is smoother it is just different. I like both. That's exactly my oppinion about both of them -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile
