WILL A DVD PLAYER PLAY BURNED DVD Movie FILE FORMATS?

Just found out my ps2 doesnt, after some research on the web.... they said it could, but it obviously can't:D Would a DVD player be able to play burned dvds? And so, does it need to be a special dvd player.

Should do.

Nope.

There's countless people who burn their home videos to a dvd format and play them on dvd players- it's worked in my experience on even really cheap dvd players.

Sure, I burn DVDs all the time and my DVD player plays them all and I have a cheapo player, the cheapest kind, and it works.
This varies from model to model tho...

From my experience, yes. Maybe some old types want, but as far as I know, no problem there...

Just doublecheck the type of DVD you are able to playback in the DVD player (DVD-R or DVD+R). I have a fairly old DVD player lying around which can only play DVD-R media.

That might be the reason for your PS2 as well (until version 5 of the PS2 it only plays DVD-R, from version 5 onwards they alos play DVD-R media).

If the player can handle DVD-r's then it should work, if it can handle different codecs like divx for example it should be even better.

I haven't used the PS2 in a long time but I'm pretty sure it plays DVD, at least originals and there should be no difference.
If you ask about divx, xvid mkv etc then no, the PS2 have no codecs for them and you have to check the specs on each individual DVD player. Even the cheapest shoud play divx today I guess.
