I've seen it a million times in different communities. You start stuffing the project with rules until you narrow it down so much that you kill it.

This guys are contributing their stuff out of love and their enthusiasm about guitar playing, it's not a 'job'.

Anyway, my 2 cents

One more thing, I was wondering, a lesson takes a lot of space (~120-130 Mb) so even with a doubled space, we can't do more than 2 lessons (if we count also collaborations too ...)

Good point - you will need additional space! I will see what we can do about that, best would be if we could make a modification to the foum so that the SI board attachements don't count...

Well I've got a kind of idea ...
Actually having a badge or not is just a detail, I mean it's cool, but it's only a badge
So I would propose, the student instructor must have a minimum of 3 or 5 lessons to become a student instructor
then, we say like 1 or 2 lessons every 2 months to keep activity, then the badge is removed, but it can be easily gained again (for a month let's say) by posting one lesson.
So if a student instructor looses his badge, he just have to post on lesson to get it back

You can also add grades in the student instructor badge : for example you can add a gold/silver/bronze pick next to it, these picks can show the activity of this student instructor or something else, like for example the quality if his lessons (just like the wiki competition)

I would like to add too that it would be cool to add quality and difficulity next to a student instructor lesson, the same that you do with instructors lesson, so like this, when somebody check out the student instructor lessons, he will find his way choosing difficulity that he likes, and quality (the quality of all the vids that I saw was always good so I have nothing to say about that smile.gif)

I have a good idea. People keep the badges but have a page somewhere where you have a list of top 5 monthly contributors in different areas and maybe have prizes every 3 or 6 months for the best contributors over that time period in different areas.

So top wiki contributors, top student instructor contributions and maybe a few others people can think of like Virtual Bands or something.

What do you think?

Hey Paal, I just noticed that you don't have a badge, but you have won that competition right? How is that, did I miss something? unsure.gif

Hi mate smile.gif

I have noticed that as well laugh.gif
I think they just forgot to give me a badge, and I forgot to ask Kris about it later.
But it's all good, hopefully they feel sorry for me and give me a custom Competition King badge tongue.gif laugh.gif

Or maybe a Student Instructinator badge tongue.gif

That's exactly my point!!
The moment when 'badges' become more important than 'contributions'!!!

If you want to increase 'productivity' over 'contributions' why don't you pay the student's contris just as you pay the instructor's (a lower fee maybe)?

Wouldn't that be fair?

Of course it would be great to be payed for SI-lessons, but then there would have to be strict criterias to be upheld in terms of video-quality and quality of the lesson. But as long as it is proffesionally made, and a good lesson it seems fair..
But aren't the best SI's taken up as "real" instructors eventually?

Hi Kris. I would suggest yet another approach, at least for video classes.

At least for me, because I made a very long class, I found it very hard to get it all formatted into a forum post. Would it be possible to use the same system that is used for the instructor's lessons? Kind of using the same system, but in a separate data base?
If eventually a student instructor is later accepted as an instructor, that would also facilitate things, right?

I wanna hop in, and say that all the suggestions are cool, but minimum amount of lessons for keeping the badge would be IMHO 2 per month. Other than that nothing.. smile.gif

2 per month is too much, it will put unnecessery pressure to make lessons, causing alot of useless lessons. that's what will happen in my opinion anyway, 1 lesson a month is more than enough really...

Oh did I wrote 2 lessons per month? Sorry my mistake I really meant 1 per month, that is 2 per two months since we talked about 2 month period in the beginning of the topic. Sorry for the typo! smile.gif

yes 1 per month should be optimal choice I guess, after all people need to keep their badges and keep teh quality of the lessons on a good level. I think the whole idea of student instructor lessons is excellent, and at a pace of one per month people can increase the overall quality of the lessons nicely, without any pressure. This is important because when they increase the quality far enough they can become instructors. If they have to do like 2 lessons per month everybody will do mediocre lessons and not much progress is being made. Since we have a couple of student instructors, and every one must do one lesson we are talking about couple of lessons per month. That is enough I would say.

Also I like the idea about three-level badge. Students get the oportunity to earn instructors status this way. For example bronse medal for all now, then silver when the lessons improve, and then in the end golden one, just before they are ready to become real instructors.
