Thanks Alex! I've been playing for a long time, but not very seriously until recently. One of my top 3 important "discoveries" (though obvious to most) would be the importance of a warmup routine.
Personally, I need a warmup routine with a "melody". Some, admittedly great, warmup routines are based around shapes or patters, but they just don't sit well with me.... I need something that warms me up, works out the hand a bit, and sounds good too!! The "shape based" warmups tend to clash notes, hence the reason for scales and not simply shapes up and down the strings from low to high e, so I reach for more interesting routines. Currently, mine are simple. I hope to see some more difficult runs added in this thread, perhaps. Really good topic! I am glad that you took time to make this video! Yeah I agree, you must be a good public speaker, really natural and calm, nice hearing you speak,
those are great exercises, I personally use my pinky a lot when warming up cause it's the one that causes trouble, Thanks for that video, that was great! This post has been edited by Daniel Realpe: Jan 20 2012, 02:09 PM -------------------- Visit my:

Thanks, and I perhaps should have mentioned the importance of working the pinky in just about any warmup routine!! For me, my pinky is also the one that can "cause trouble", so I need to find a warmup routine that "matches up" with my current level of playing.
For example, if I'm not playing as much, then my pinky is weaker, and I can't use a warmup routine that will work out the pinky TOO MUCH. Kind of like playing sports....a warmup is meant to actually warmup the muscles. Too much, and you put your self at risk of pulling a muscle during the warmup routine!! So it's important to match a warmup to your current level of physical hand strength, in my opinion. Keep your hands tough!!
