Hi All (especially advanced players),

So, I have done like 3 advanced lessons that required 16th notes triplets at 130bpm to 150bpm. Well, this might just be a beginning but I wanted to ask anyway since I am feeling I am having to redo everything again.

If I can do 16th triplets (even string skipping) at 130bpm, then doing 16th notes at 150bpm should really be easy (as I thought). I thought perhaps in a week I can get it right. But I am guessing it will take be 2 months at least like other lessons I have done. The fingering are different, there are string skipping and wide stretches but shouldn't it take less time when you have already done that tempo?

As advanced players, what is you experience on this? I really like to know what goes on and why we need to restart everything, start slow catch up everything at slow tempo and then speed up, virtually taking it 1-2 months.

Thanks!

What lesson are you working on Chandra? All licks are not created equal. For me it depends on the technique. When you say you can do 16th triplets at 150bpm what technique are you using? Legato? Tapping? AP?? Hybrid? My experience has always been that there is no set amount of time to learn a lick. I was working on Muris's Phrygian advanced lesson and there is an AP lick at the very end that he uses AP to play. I can't play it that fast using AP.......so I changed it to a tapping lick and I could play it. Of course doing that changes the dynamics and feel of the lick. I've been working on my AP but I still can't play that lick.......... laugh.gif There is no set time IMO......but.....as you keep working then the licks will get easier and you will learn the lessons faster.

Hope that helps......probably not though...... laugh.gif

Thanks monte. smile.gif I can only do AP, thats what I have been concentrating this whole year. I could do legato pretty well (since its easier than AP but haven't really done any lessons regarding that (wow its been long time).

Yeah, I might have asked this a bit earlier. The lesson I am working is another AP with string skipping and 16th notes throughout with pretty wide stretches. I know its not an easy lesson but was just wondering how much time others would take if they have already done similar lessons. But frankly I guess I am just being impatient. This one is completely new to me anyway, at least wide stretching and continuous string skipping, if not tempo. smile.gif

Thats Vasilije.. but I am in 3rd week and perfection is still not at sight. I can almost do it at tempo missing a lot of notes but I don't think its gonna come to me anytime sooner.. hopefully as I grow more and as more time passes on, I can grab it faster. smile.gif

I think you should be there soon. For things we already covered in the past - it doesn't take much time to get up to speed (back in shape). But when you change something like shapes, playing 8th or 16th notes etc you do need to practice that separately (starting slowly). Generally if you can play it clean and comfortably on one tempo you don't necessarily have to start that much slower than that in the next practice session (day). I think you are nearly there and after few weeks you should master it if you stick with the practice. With things like this , technique just gets "unlocked" next day without knowing it - you can play it well (without expecting)l ! smile.gif

So keep practicing and you will get there! smile.gif

Yep Bogdan.. I am experiencing it as well.. The song is in 150bpm and I wasn't just able to do it at 90bpm at first thus the frustrations. But now I can do it at 150bpm but still need to practice quite some days on the second half. I am hoping to get it perfect at the end of next week. smile.gif

Every new micro-movement needs rehearsing and time to settle in the muscle memory. Both hands need to be synced perfectly, specially for higher tempos and short notes. Take your time, it will come, you can already see the progress, and evaluate the timeframe needed to play it without mistakes. Once you get to that level, you need more time to settle things enough so you can give yourself a chance to relax your hands and have full control over the tone.

Thanks Ivan for the tips. Its 3rd week and I can do this lesson now. I will see if I can record flawlessly tomorrow. Fingers still feel some pain but I guess I just need few more days before I can perfect it. smile.gif
