You should try TuXGuitar. It reads Guitar Pro and powertabs files. It works great here !

+1 on TuxGuitar..Its a free alternative to Guitar Pro and works on linux too! Really good piece of software!

Hey,

As Linux User you might be interested in my software called http://29a.ch/playitslowly/. It's not a replacement for TuxGuitar but rather an additional tool. It does pretty much what the name says, it loops over parts of audio files at a different speed / pitch. It's free as in beer and speech!

+1 for Tuxguitar. It's not as awesome as guitarpro, but it works.
