Wow! The world really must be coming to an end!!!! smile.gif

Good God! I don't know what will happen to them now, Portnoy is such a huge part of DT...Half the universe is now empty and void. sad.gif

I don't really know of any drummer I would want to replace Mike Portnoy...Its just, too weird without him.

EDIT

I hope since MP didn't want this to be an official split that there is hope for him to join the band again in the future. This is just terrible news.

This SUCKS!!! sad.gif

Though to be honest I kind of thought Black Clouds was going to be their last album

Still unbelieavble...

i am pretty heart broken

I just hope he doesn't join Avenged Sevenfold full time, nothing against those guys but to me music like that is a waste of his talent and time.

Ok... that's bad news

Sad news for all DT fans; must have been a very hard decision for Portnoy.

Wrt A7X: I can imagine he's happy with other projects right now, not a lot of responsibility and a lot of fun for him, something he must have been missing in DT (given his statement). I'm a big A7X fan, but I don't think he'll be a permanent member (though will probably finish the complete tour now, incl the 2011 part). Too bad, but if I was him (god, I wish I was, the being a prof musician part smile.gif ), I'd seriously enjoy various projects in stead of committing to one right away.

It's definitely a shock to me. I've been a huge DT fan over the years, although I like and admire only the Kevin Moore era. I'm a huge fan of Portnoy and Petrucci tho, and I never thought this would come to happen. Hope that he knows what he's doing, and, according to the statement, he's aware of his decision. I strongly suspect that he'll be back in a few years, tho biggrin.gif

This is not Portnoy! It's some alien clone! They abducted him, I KNEW! Something was wrong when he joined Avenged Sevenfold.

It must be a midlife crisis. tongue.gif

Seriously though, Dream Theater is my favorite band, and I can't imagine (at least not yet) anyone else in the percussion spot.

At least they still have JP!

Oh this is just sad news sad.gif((

I'm curios how and if they'll continue DT work...

Posted by: The Uncreator Sep 10 2010, 01:12 AM

Bozzio maybe, he could play what portnoy plays, Dont know if his style would blend well. Its going to be a big event when they announce a new drummer.

I feel bad for all the DT fans. sad.gif

Posted by: TylerT Sep 10 2010, 03:46 AM

It will never be the same!!

Posted by: The Uncreator Sep 10 2010, 04:13 AM

I doubt that means it won't be good though. Whatever they do next I am sure it will still be Dream Theater, and in true DT fashion, it will blow your mind. smile.gif

Posted by: TylerT Sep 10 2010, 04:14 AM

Haha yea your right man!

A different DT doesn't mean a worse DT! lol

They will probably replace him with someone pretty unreal too!

Posted by: thefireball Sep 10 2010, 04:52 AM

Yeah, my favorite band Skillet got their drummer replaced. The old one, Lori, moved on and an 18 year old girl, Jen, is now the new drummer. She's a bit older now...I think around 21?....But she is so amazing!! When listening to their album Comatose, can hear Lori's touch versus Jen's in the Awake album. But it's nothing drastic. They are an amazing band, and as great as ever!

EDIT: and I gotta say that Lori trained Jen, so Jen sounds very much like Lori when playing songs from Comatose. Jen was trained well. smile.gif

I'm heart broken as well,

I'm still in shock,

mmm....If they want to get someone else, I would go for Aquiles Priester,

I read it day ago. Bad news, regarding that they are over 20 years together, they were like a family...

I'm really sad.
Then it's not Dream Theater anymore . . . (IMO)
