Totally with you on that. After 2 sets of active EMGs I have had my fill of them. I'll keep them in the guitars they are in, but your description on "hot, passive, organic" is perfect.

Beautiful guitar Hajduk. Just wondering if the bridge being tilted up is a problem with your playing or feel on the guitar? If the intonation is good and it feels good, I think these bridges are supposed to float with the flow?

In saying that I think everyone should have at least one guitar with EMGs in it, the do have a sound of their own and can be useful in ones arsonal. And if a super compressed done is something your aim for its the best choice.

I have 2 guitars with EMGs and they do what they do well. perfect pickup for grinding rhythems.

Basiclly the hotter a pickup is the less high end it has and the darker it will tend to sound. Hence why having the hottest pickup isn't always the best choice.

Active pickups were invented to prevent this high end loss which it did but it also introduced compression (hence the lack of dynamics)

Moral of the story. You never gain anything without sacrificing something else in return.

PS, Go with Todd said and adjust the screws on the back. floyds are stable once you have them setup just perfect and keep using the same gauge and brand of strings. Also make sure you stretch your strings properly or it will go out of tune heaps until it settles. Its like the biggest thing people forget to do.

I have to admit, that even tho I am not a fan of active pups, they have their own distinct flavor and sometimes, I crave to achieve that sort of tone. But I would not get such an axe for myself, as for a little caprice, it's not worth the investment wink.gif
