Hey guys,
My name is Amanda, I'm 23 and I live in Orlando. I bought a guitar about a year ago (with the help of my dad, you guys know him on here as "Blister") but finishing college took precedence over playing. However, I graduated last month with two bachelor's degrees and now I have a lot more free time so here I am =)
I am absolutely obsessed with music and while I've never really played an instrument I have danced my entire life - everything from pointe to hip hop to middle eastern - and I've spent some time singing. So I'm not exactly a stranger to rhythm haha
My favorite genre is rock! All different kinds of rock... Of course I love the greats; The Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, etc. But I'm really into some female fronted hard rock/metalcore bands as of late such as In This Moment, The Pretty Reckless and Flyleaf. Also, I'm a massive fan of 90s alternative... Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Hole, Stone Temple Pilots, The Cranberries, Smashing Pumpkins, the list just goes on.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can with GMC. My dad's been taking lessons on here for a while and has nothing but awesome things to say about the instructors and his experience on the site so I'm pretty stoked to get started =)
ha, when I read your nickname I was wondering if you'd be a family member of Gary.
Welcome to GMC!

Welcome to the madness, Amanda !!
Welcome Amanda! I dig your musical preferences very much as well! Please let us know if you need anything Also, what sort of a guitar are you playing? There's tons of stuff to explore here - video chat lessons or mentoring programs, collabs and a lot of fun activities which you will discover in time
Proud Dad here! I was glad when she asked about playing guitar & pleased again when she asked about joining GMC. I was trying to be careful & not be pushy (being pushy is not my style).
Amanda, how cool would it be for us to be in a video chat together & be in different cities? Well, you know you can ask me anything anytime. But everyone here is amazing & encouraging, not only the instructors, but the members, too! You'll soon discover why I love GMC so much!

I would highly recommend getting started on Todd's lesson 1 & continuing from there.
Use the search bar & find some fun stuff, too! It's vital to work on basic scales, exercises & chords but do put some fun stuff in your practice you like to play to keep it fun. You never want to lose your passion for playing.
Fellow GMC'ers, please correct and/or add to any of my suggestions.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Welcome to GMC!
(And she was in a GMC Funnies before she was a member! See the cartoon below? )
