Wise advice, I agree 100%. Quality is what counts the most, so doing a nice quality simpler lick is always more than doing a sloppy fast one. Players should always play within their limits on stage, and practice above limits at home. There's no need to rush things, specially on live acts.

This is a very important advice , I think that on stage you need to be on your best and its much better to play things learned before that you are comfortable with than to go into improvising and overplaying stuff..People will judge you on how well you perform songs you play on stage (no matter how simple and complicated they be), they don't care what you can play at home.So keeping it in the pocket (no matter how simple it is) is best way to go in order to impress the audience!

I like this tip a lot !
Practice slow , speed it up, over time it will get faster , and on the stage you can show it off at your comfy tempo
