Misha Mansoor Custom Overdrive Options

Misha from Periphery has a new Overdrive pedal and this vid shows him with his AXE FX unit and the custom pedal, and the original pedal the custom is based on.

The reason I thought I'd share this, is that it shows a big "Trick of the Trade" for many crazy gain guys use to get their sick tone. In short, they put an overdrive (typically a tube screamer sort of pedal) in front of their setup whether it's a TUBE HEAD or a AXE FX Processor.

Of course, you can get PLENTY OF GAIN WITHOUT THIS TRICK. Many people do just fine without it But many put an overdrive type pedal (not a distortion, big diff actually) with the gain on low and volume on high, to give their tone punch and bite.

This trick also works if you are using a POD, USB INTERFACE, ETC. Essentially, it's acting as a little tubey sort of pre-amp boost which makes the distortions in a given setup sound a bit meaner. So if you were wondering how Misha and other folks get that tone, well, that's how Here is the vid.
