GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Hi Everybody! I'm New Here!

Posted by: Davidzz1988 Mar 15 2013, 05:19 PM

Hi everybody,

My name is David.
I'm from Québec,Canada( so I apologize for the bad English sometimes dry.gif )
I started playing guitar at the age of 13. My uncle gave me my first Axe(his own guitar) to learn to play. It was an old Charvel with a schaller trem, Emg 81 pickup in the bridge position and a 24 frets all scalloped neck. It was a dream to play with.
I've grown up listening to old rock & metal(Maiden, ACDC, XYZ, Ratt, Mötley crue, etc...) . I've gotten my first band(Punk) about like 1 year later and we have been recording our first Demo Cd at the age of 15. This was a very good experience for me to ''grow up'' a little bit as a guitar player. At the age of 17 I started a new band (Southern rock,Hardcore) with one of my friend. We've both dreamed to be ''rock stars'' someday... We have put everything in that band.We have been in studios to record 2 albums. We had the chance to play in different places in Canada and tour a lot. A very grateful experience. One of the last shows I've played with the band was at a Vans warped tour venue in 2007 in Montreal with big bands like As I lay Dying & Killswitch Engage. It was a dream come true. I left the band a little later because I wanted to finish school since music was not giving us money to pay the bills. Beside shows, I've found a profound love for recording. Listening to every little details that I liked or disliked about my playing and try to be better every time. So I've invest a little bit of money to buy a cheap sound-card at the moment to record myself and my ideas. The passion for recording just kept growing and growing till today.

I'm here to improve my playing since I'm a self taught guitarist and to meet some nice people. GMC is just awesome. I don't know why I've took so much time to become a member. I've found very good lessons with awesome teachers.
I love music and love almost every style! (From Adele to Meshuggah)
My heroes: Greg Howe, Andy James, Eric Johnson, Allan Holdsworth, Guthrie Govan, Tosin Abasi & so much more....

Hi David! Nice introduction! Welcome to GMC! smile.gif

Do you have any audio or videos of you playing? This would help us a lot to know how to help you and suggest lessons from here. It's very important to create a good program with diary routines based on lessons and learning theory. There is a lot of great stuff here so just let us know if you need some help.

Enjoy it!

Hey man! Nice to meet you!
This is my old Jackson DXMG. Great guitar with a nice feel. The only downside was the Emg Hz stock pickups. I've replaced them with dimarzio's D-ActivatorsX. The Hz were dark and a little bit muddy sounding. At least for me and my playing. I also changed the knobs for speed knobs!

Hey David...when you made your videos I can see at least three different shot angles. Did you use three cameras simultaneously or did you do three well timed takes which were able to be integrated with the audio easily?

Almost had me Headbangin then.... blink.giflaugh.gif

Hey! I've bought 2 very cheap ''HD'' sony camera on ebay 2 years ago to be able to make cooler guitar covers videos on youtube.
I've got a free tripod with my purchase so what I have done in the videos was 2 shots angles simultaneously. The tripod was placed right in front of me and the second camera was placed on a desk to film the picking hand. I've recorded the 2 videos in one shot
(Press rec on the two cameras simultaneously).

My chain was :
guitar going into the podx3 pro to my Video editor(Sony Vegas 12). The cameras were filming the take as I recorded the pod audio track in Vegas.
After that, I've taken the 2 videos recorded in my cameras to import them in my pc. I've put the 2 videos tracks perfectly aligned together in Vegas. I've erased the two audio track of my cameras in Vegas and I kept the two video tracks align together and I've un-muted the podx3 track that I've made when I was recording my take with the two cameras.

Hope my english wasn't to crappy and that you understand everything I've wrote.
If there is any questions, ask me man!
