Which tunings do you prefer and for what style?

The only one I have really used is dropped D which Marcus Lavendell introduced me to.

Had I been more insightful when starting out on the guitar I might have never used standard tuning though - as its logic can be questioned.

By the way don't miss an awesome lesson by Cosmin about Drop A.

My three favourites are standard, half step down and drop D. Actually, I love drop D and I wrote my very first complete song in that tuning (check it on my youtube channel wink.gif ). So a big thanks to Lian and Gabriel who introduced me to this tuning!

I like DADGAD for folk and just other weird open tunings. It sprouts creativity

I currently like playing in D standard, but Eb is also one of my all time favorites. I've got my guitar strung up with 11's so when I play in standard it sounds killer. I always seem to get the best tone, crunch and tightness when playing in standard, but obviously can't get that beefy sound of a drop tuning.

So Kris, what is it about standard tuning you find illogical?

Hey Guys smile.gif

Aside from the standard, I use the altered form of drop A (just like in the lesson) and also drop C for some other songs.
I love downtuning like nothing else biggrin.gif

What do you guys find useful at these tunings?

E standard for regular playing, Eb standard for blues with thicker strings, drop D for metal and drop C for metal/stoner rock. I also like to make open tunings on treble strings when recording something with slide.

I prefer standard E for all the funk/rock stuff I play. I need the tension on my bass for slap style. Eventually I use dropped D tuning when I need more depth.
