Just a week back it was Nita's album (we already discussed quite a bit) and now this;

But before I comment anything, what do you guys think?

I listened to a FLAC-version yesterday, not that I am by any means an audio or FLAC-snob, but in what I heard I didn't think it was too bad. I haven't listened through YouTube, but to me the drums sounded better than previously on DT albums, and the bass seemed more audible. Vocals very processed in a bad way imo.

Honestly didn't think it was THAT bad listening on my end on my B&O S-45 connected to my computer.

Sounds good to me. They went for a fairly organic sound. The verse vocals are quite wet but that's obviously what they wanted - and it makes sense when the chorus kicks in.

Getting hella systematic chaos's vibes from this. composition wise.

Dunno if its from my current headphones, but audio wise I wish I could make more of the bass.

I still dislike compressor attack/release times. Hard to explain so here is a short example;

original;

https://soundcloud.com/gitarg-nl-kleri/gmcfirst?in=gitarg-nl-kleri/sets/testcomp

Processed;

https://soundcloud.com/gitarg-nl-kleri/gmc2?in=gitarg-nl-kleri/sets/testcomp

This is the effect thats bothering me with this single, not the loudness (which is bad) but how they got the loudness.

Now that you say it and share this comparison, I can hear what you mean in DT song. However, it doesn't affect my connection with the song and what they are playing.

By the way, this thread and knowledge is very valuable, thanks for sharing Mertay!

Thanks! smile.gif

By the way I just noticed, the example file I uploaded (non-compressed) was peaking at -6db. My soundcloud upload and DT's youtube single loudness seem similar when compared in this topic laugh.gif shows I guess loudness wars are pointless.

Seems well played and produced, but is it just me or does it lack a certain amount of emotional oomph that some early releases seemed have? I hate to dive right in to "the old stuff is better" as this is very good on it's own merits imho. Some of it does feel like they are coasting a bit instead of pushing the envelope, but I guess they have been pushing it for decades by now so maybe it's just time for something like this.

I feel you.

To me its sounds cool, but it sounds like something i've heard before.

That sums it up. Well said! It's good but it does seem almost too familiar. I can't tell if it's me, just because I have an expectation of how they sound, or it it's them, playing to my expectations of how they will sound.

anyone listen to the last Baroness album?
Its a few years old now but the internet was not happy in the least with the production. It took heavy criticism, for example -
"Purple clocks in at an embarrassing DR4, with many, many tracks hitting DR3. But the score itself is really only the tip of the iceberg as this record just sounds dreadful. Drums are utterly lifeless. Bottom end, what’s that? There is zero imaging to really speak of as every track sounds like a garbled sonic mess."
"why the hell is this record being produced like it’s the next Ke$sha album? "
* taken from angry metal guy
That kinda sums up most of the forum posts.

I really like the album, some of their best songs imo, I dont really know much about 'Dynamic Range' values but I must admit that I much preferred the mix they had on their previous album 'yellow and green'. A remaster of Purple with that type of production would be great.

My ears are not offended smile.gif Sounds ok to me but then again I'm pretty flexible on production. If every album sounded the same it would get a bit boring. That said, Lars Ulrich may be going deaf if the drum tones from his last few efforts are to be considered.
