Sounds good to me. They went for a fairly organic sound. The verse vocals are quite wet but that's obviously what they wanted - and it makes sense when the chorus kicks in.

I still dislike compressor attack/release times. Hard to explain so here is a short example;

Now that you say it and share this comparison, I can hear what you mean in DT song. However, it doesn't affect my connection with the song and what they are playing. anyone listen to the last Baroness album? Its a few years old now but the internet was not happy in the least with the production. It took heavy criticism, for example - "Purple clocks in at an embarrassing DR4, with many, many tracks hitting DR3. But the score itself is really only the tip of the iceberg as this record just sounds dreadful. Drums are utterly lifeless. Bottom end, what’s that? There is zero imaging to really speak of as every track sounds like a garbled sonic mess." "why the hell is this record being produced like it’s the next Ke$sha album? " * taken from angry metal guy That kinda sums up most of the forum posts. I really like the album, some of their best songs imo, I dont really know much about 'Dynamic Range' values but I must admit that I much preferred the mix they had on their previous album 'yellow and green'.  Sounds ok to me but then again I'm pretty flexible on production. If every album sounded the same it would get a bit boring.
