In some of the tabs there is an L. What does this mean? I've never seen it in another tab.

Yes I replied a couple of times about the same thing.

If you have

-----2--L--2---

You pick the first "2" and wait for the note to last through "L" (don't pick the "L" just keep the same note on) and then pick the second "2"
