Hello Muris!

Earlier today I found myself digging deeper and deeper into the Neoclassical genre, and after two years of playing in the genre, I must say I'm in love biggrin.gif

My question to you is what kind of licks/riffs would you say is a common find in neoclassical music? I cant begin to count how many times I've watched your Extreme Neoclassic lesson, and I feel I have a few ideas about licks, such as:

E||--17-15-17-13-17-12-17----17----17----17----17-||
B||----------------------------15----13----12----10----||
G||-------------------------------------------------------||
D||-------------------------------------------------------||
A||-------------------------------------------------------||
E||-------------------------------------------------------||

I've also been looking into such scales as the Natural Minor/Aeolian, Harmonic Minor, and Melodic Minor scales, as well as the Phrygian scale. Anything else I should look into?

Thanks!

Hi Matt. smile.gif

Your list of scales is fine to get that Neo-Classical sound into your playing.
You could add Phrygian Dominant perhaps,which is Harmonic Minor starting from 5th degree. smile.gif

And about the lick/s.
This one you provided here contains a "pedal" tone,
which is quite often in classical(mostly Baroque) music,same as in Neo-Classic.
There are many ways of doing pedal tone,ascending,descending,in sequences etc.

Another cool thing to add is surely the arpeggio.
Many types,minors,majors but if you're into YJM
then you really have to play some diminished arpeggios,3 strings patters mostly.

I hope this helps,let me know if you need anything else
BUT don't forget to consult my fellow instructor Marcus Lavendell as well,
he's our Neo-Classic guru! smile.gif
