Hey guys anyone who knows how to help with this let me know...

I have been writing a song the past few days. I got it done and it sounds completely original. Then I took a break. I listened to some songs, and I tried to write the riffs for my next song and they all sound like the songs that are stuck in my head! I can't get anything that soudns original. Any advice?

Having a song sound original is close to impossible, as there are billions of songs written, so ussually when you write a song it will come out as a mix of songs/bands you like, so basicly you'r originality is a mix of the music you surround yourself with, I hope I make sense smile.gif

When me and my band cant make new songs we just try to cover another song. Then its like "well lets try it", basically its just improvisation, we dont get past the intro, then we just start jamming and suddenly we come up with a masterpiece! laugh.gif

So yeah, try to cover some songs and then later you can try to make your own songs.

Oh and yeah, dont just sit around listen to classic rock and metal(I dont know if you do, but many people does it tongue.gif ), listen to old and new, blues, jazz, folk, hip hop, classical, different metal genres, etc etc.
In short: Listen to EVERYTHING!
