My mate is in a band as a singer and we occasionally jam together, he was doing an impromptu solo gig last night (with backing tracks) in a local pub and I went along to support him, he asked me if i wanted to get up and do some acoustic numbers with him (Me playing acoustic, him singing) and heres what I learnt

1. Never assume that a guitar is set up correctly even if it says Martin on the headstock (Which this one did!), I tried to play a barre chord on the 12th fret and i felt like i was wrestling a python blink.gif

2. Always, always carry a pick with you in case the pick he uses is like a soggy sticking plaster and can make a 1500 pound guitar sound like crap unsure.gif

3. Always practice wearing a strap as well as sitting down, it came as quite a shock when I couldnt see the flaming fretboard because his guitar was huge sad.gif

On the plus side I think the audience were that drunk they didnt give a rats ass what we were playing, we got a lot of applause and slapping of backs, so we're gonna do it again next week I think.......................

....................but only once theyre all proper soused!! biggrin.gif

Lessons learned the hard way are always a fun experience. Maybe not there and then when you're on stage but afterwards, quite often biggrin.gif
Thanks for sharing, must have been positive in the end after all since you're doing it again wink.gif

There's so much stuff that you can only learn by being on stage. So take advantage of every opportunity to play live in front of an audience!

double check that your guitar is in tune, you dont want to play the star spangled banner in front of 1000 people and have your guitar horribly out of tune

When you learn something the hard way it will help you more than some easy stuff.

And it's important to realize what you learn and how to deal with it in the future wink.gif

Playing live is a valuable experience, and some things you just have to learn the hard way...Also when playing live be prepared to expect the unexpected! smile.gif I learned so many weird things on stage that I couldn't even imagine being a possibility! smile.gif
