make sure you use all three fingers to bend. It takes some strength but you get used to it.

There is a bend in a Pink Floyd song that goes from fret 13 up to 18... now thats a big bend!!

Often those noises come from a string tree on the headstock, or if the string is sliding up and down on a saddle.

Thanks guys I tried it and i was able to.Just some minor clicks I'm glad you made it. You should get used to it over time and with practice. Generally you shouldn't worry much that strings will snap - they are much more powerful then they seem.
