GMC Forum _ Techniques (Muris) _ Zero Pick Angle?

Posted by: Ctodd Feb 16 2009, 08:45 AM

Hi Muris,

I was reading through some of the posts here, and I read that when you do your insane speed picking you don't angle your pick at all.

Now I am just starting out with this speedpicking stuff, and I simply cannot understand how it would be possible to get nearly as fast as you without angling the pick. When you play fast are you just barely "nipping" the string? It is my understanding that most guitarists use at least a little bit of an angle when they play fast stuff. Did you conciously decide to use a zero pick angle, or did it just happen like that?

I'm sorry for bombarding you with questions like this, but I am really curious as to how you do it.

thanks,

Chris

I believe it just happened, never thought about it that much indeed.
I prefer to keep my wrist kind a fixed on the bridge
so I wouldn't have to move it vertically all the time to get 100% zero angle,
that way it covers all 6 strings with as less angle as possible,
not sure it if total zero angle all the time, probably not,
but I certainly don't make any angle on purpose and I try to
keep the pick parallel to all 6 strings as much as possible,
that gives me better tone and attack. smile.gif
