GMC Forum _ Uploads _ Kris & Marcus Go Techno
Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Jul 11 2008, 07:07 PM
Hi there - who says shredders can't dance?!
Marcus and I are very proud to present our first techno-metal tune:
Inspite of the song's digital character you will find some guitarwork in here - throughout the song Marcus and I trade funky licks and Marcus rips it at the end of the song. Other than that....it's just techno!
We hope you will like it...
Lyrics:
Are no men alive?!
My beliefs are lost within
All that remains is the thorn
You have betrayed me
And you have raped me
You must hate me
You have set my life on fire
I have been cheated of my years
But no more I will strike back!
You have betrayed me
And you have raped me
You must hate me
You have set my life on fire
-------------------------
I hope to get a blog post up if there should be interest for one - and as always you can download all our songs http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/kmc-metal.htm.

Wow, that was insane! I liked it in a funky sort of way. Kinda took me to some crazy establishment with people in makeup and dancing in cages! I would say it deserves a blog, nice job guys.

HAHA sound great guys;) sometimes it almost sounds like Kris Growl

That sounds realy cool, i like it
Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Jul 11 2008, 07:42 PM
Thanks so much for the positive comments - we were a little afraid you would be turned off by the "slight" change of direction! Both Marcus and me love exploring new musical territory so that's why we wanted to give this kind of techno-metal a shot!

Hmm that sounds interesting
maybe an idea for a music video (we'd have to invite
you in to do the makeup-dancing-in cages though!
)

Well I have experimented a little with the low Rammstein type of voice for this one!
Posted by: Déjà vu Jul 11 2008, 08:07 PM
HAHA! I love it! It reminds me of Go-go Bordello and Rammstein if the ever mixed together (that's a good thing). This would definitely make one "trippy" lesson!
*Edit* I just finished reading the earlier posts... I didn't realize you said that you tried the Rammstein voice on purpose! I called that one! WHOO!!

Well you guys certainly aren't one trick ponies!!! I love the part where it suddenly goes funky with the wah guitar - cool!

Well we have been dicussing something instrumental again - as we were really happy with how that went!
But to be honest I think we will do a French Opera instead!!

Hehe yes I also thought of that - I told Marcus when I had my first idea of the voocals that "it's going to be like Rammstein meets nu-metal"!

Thanks yes I agree! For me the whole charm with music lies in the curiousity - nothing gives me greater kicks than trying out new stuff. It can be anything from new shred licks to new music styles. I deeply recommend everyone to try it!
Also - I believe it's really important to explore different kind of things if you want to come up with an original style!

Very cool song, as all your other works. Very techno meets no metal ish kinda ish.
I like the almost...what do you call those...shrieking background vocals of some parts. They were very Magnus Ekwall from Ayreons The Human Equation-ish. More of those! In front!

Amazing! It sounds great man... I hope the lyrics are not based on your personal experiences though!

Thanks Canis and Caelum - it is very much appreciated!
JuanMV - no fortunately it is not based on personal experience (if you read the lyircs literally).
However the feeling of betrayal/dissapointment (etc) is one that I think most people have experienced (or will at some point) - I need some personal connection with the lyrics in order to shout like that! (it would be hard to with lyrics about donald duck or ice-cream!)

One thing though, do metal lyrics need to necessarily relate to depressing and saddening stuff? Can a metal singer connect to a song that is a "happy" song? Is there such thing as a "happy metal song"? I honestly never thought about this...

I am not sure...but I would like to be able to write "less depressive" lyrics - but this kind of stuff is what comes naturally!
I guess I must be traumatized!
Posted by: Caelumamittendum Jul 12 2008, 10:32 PM
I don't think metal lyrics HAVE to be depressing. A friend of mine and myself worked on a project some time back - which now rests in Guitar Pro files where some of the lyrics (which my friend wrote) are like this:
Eleven, the season where sun shows its face
Quietly, it lingers, over winters pale embrace
Casting silent shadows, over the trees dressed in white
As whispers from above, speak of will and silent might
Soon the snow will fade, and green is to foresee
Gentle lillies break the ground, and to the sun, vow their playful creed
All credit to Kristoffer Kiilerich for the lyrics.

You know i know you guys are both busy, but it might be nice if you guys could do some kind of workshop on your recording, every recording i have heard from you guys is top notch, a break down of all the in's and outs of your recordings, from drums, to vocals would i think help alot of us guys get good quality recordings.

This is cool. But, I have to admit, the first thing I thought of when I heard this song is some angry dude going into a disco and cleaning house. Actually, I would like to see the video of that! Chicks dancing around, lights everywhere, cheezy disco clothes, bad cologne, finally some dude can't take it anymore... bam! Hell breaks loose!
This is quite a twist from what you guys normally play. The mix is awesome! Good job!
