unsure.gif I am over 45 and always wanted to play in a band playing rock ..I invested in a Gibson Las Paul and Marshall stack….sounds easy! Now I have joined your fan club and hope you can give me a program of where to start please and what’s important from your point of view.I have a little guitar experience simple chords And barre chords are no problem and a few scales under my belt. Would you advise on learning music at the same time Kris? I have started late I know, but before I depart this planet I would like to reach a goal which has always been a dream, getting married and having kids sort of put it on hold if you know what I mean

Thanks

Beginning, Les Paul and Marshall. I admire that. Well you just need to work on it. So many things. This is a very good place to start, I assure you, Kris is one heck of a teacher, he as a sense for what you need to know. I would go to ultimate-guitar.com and find some tab of songs you like. At your age, you may like some old stuff (I do). Like say Zeppelin, or say Allman Brothers. Or whoever you like. I would really play some slow stuff, not just fast. Also you can get some software that will slow down the solo and still keep the same pitch. There is one called slowdowner that I use. It is nice. Just be patient and work on it, and you will get better and better. Just practice and enjoy it. Step at a time. Step by step, you get higher and higher. That is the way you learn anything. No hurry. I would not even worry about being in a band. If you ever end up in one, that will just happen. But it is just fun to play, even if you only play for your cats and dog.

And oh, get yourself a strat. Just get a standard american strat. kris has one of the deluxe strats, they really have a type of humbucker in them. they are nice, but as you have the lp, I would get the traditional strat. You will enjoy it more if you change off, and a strat and lp are quite different. it is nice to have a few guitars for variety.
