i read multiple times that people say that the ibanez edge III bridge will break or die or whatnot
but how?
coz it is like floyd rose isnt it? basically a bridge that has a block of metal to clamp the string in, and it is pivoting on 2 bits of pivots (lol) and then the springs make sure the is a opposiig force to keep it pushed against the pivot when the strings are on there and the springs will allow you to do downwards et upwards etc.
so only 2 things that could possibly wear out
1. the spring could get stretched too much and loose its elasticity, which can be solved by getting new springs which shouldnt cost too much for a better one that will last for a while
2. the little block that holds the string in gets worn out, this can also be bought cheaply and a better lasting one is still gonna be quite cheap unless you get a diamond one (yumm)

so how can it break exactly? or is that what people mean by it being rubbish, you might need to get some new springs and small cubes of stuff?

I have never heard of edge tremolos to break at all!
And i cannot believe that they have weak spots or whatever that could make them fall appart. Have you seen Herman Li doing whammy harmonics by lifting the whole guitar just with his tremolo? Those Bridges can take a lot and that's why I think those rumors you heard are made up by Ibanez-haters.

It is a low end bridge and it's made out of soft metal parts, so you'll eventually get problems with tuning stabilty.

That's exactly the problem. The knife edges (on which the bridge pivots) will flatten or wear out. Unfortunately they put the edge 3 on a couple guitars I would have otherwise considered buying (Xiphos and RGT42).

Nah its just the Edge III mate, Herman uses a guitar based on the Ibanez S series these days which use Zero Resistance tremolo's, these use ball bearings so dont break as easily due to less friction.

All other Ibanez trem's are fine, its just botox says the Edge III's are made with soft metal parts so are known to wear down rather fast with extended use.
