I have a problem when I learn new chords. I learn the chord shape, name and can switch to it perfectly from other chord shaped. Then I might not play that chord shape for a little while then I forget what kind of chord it is even though I can still play it.

There is lots of chords I can play on the guitar and dont even know the chord name.

Does anyone else experience this and whats the best way to remember the chord name.

I can't remember chords very well either. I think the best thing to do is to learn the theory of how to build them and then whether you knew them or not you will be able to put a name to them. If I forget I usually will try to name them first and if I can't then I cheat and try an online chord finder like www.gootar.com . The Professor has been posting some great stuff on how to build different chords in the theory board, that's where I would start.

Hey mate smile.gif Getting to the theory part - this is what you need to focus on. Once you understand the processes behind building chords and become aware of the disposition of the notes on the neck, you will automatically be able to sort out chord positions that are at hand in any given situation.

The more you play with this idea, the more you will grasp it - I will make a little video in which I will talk a bit more about this for you smile.gif

Hi mate, I'm with Cosmin and Vonhotch about this. If you learn the theory, you will be able to discover the name of the chords by your own. It's the best way!

The pleasure was all mine mate wink.gif As I said, experimenting will prove very useful! Just start slowly and pick up a chord progression that you like. Understand the chords and play them in various positions and after that, transpose the progression in every key - you will feel far more powerful, trust me wink.gif
