GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ What Do You Want For Christmas?
Posted by: RobM Dec 8 2007, 05:07 AM
Just wondering what you would ask for for a Christmas present, I'm interested to see what the GMC family is wanting for Christmas and hoping that Santa will come thru for you all. Let's keep it in the price range of US $500.00 to make it fun.
I'm having trouble this year as I recently got a new guitar and amp so I kind of feel guilty asking for something else for Christmas.
Posted by: preownedguitar Dec 8 2007, 05:12 AM
Let's see. I want a good Drum VST, Symphonic orchestra VST, the new POD X3 Live Gearbox plugin, and some more recording/mixing/developing song lessons.
Posted by: Animosity Dec 8 2007, 05:16 AM

I second that.
Not just any winning ticket though. Something over a million!
EDIT: AFTER TAXES!

I want an external hard drive, and a guitar stool. Like socks, guitar strings are always a good present for a musician.
Posted by: PlayAllDay Dec 8 2007, 05:31 AM
I want a LCD/DVD TV minimum 19" so I can watch my music dvds in my bedroom too. It has to be an all-in-one unit to save space and avoid it looking like cord city in there...

Line 6 Pocket Pod, A Coffin HardShell Case ( Looks Bad Ass ! ), and Mass Effect for the 360.

A chainsaw.
Murder being made legal.
My little cousin lacking the ability to run.
You can put two and two together.

Well I'm currently saving my pennies for either a Peavey 6505 head or a Krank Revolution head, I can't quite decide which yet, so I'm hoping Santa brings me money to go towards that!

Well I didn't really ask for much this year since I just recently got a new 42 inch HD LCD TV (after a lot of grief due to shipping and breakage of two TV's during shipping...long story...still very angry )
Anyways I did ask for a Boss MT - 2 distortion pedal. But that was about it I think. I know I'll get movies (I'm a bit of a film buff and collector) and probably a few books but I get that every year.
Posted by: The Uncreator Dec 8 2007, 03:01 PM
Cant think of anything i want, so i asked for money, Probably just buy guitar stuff with it.
Posted by: Toni Suominen Dec 8 2007, 03:17 PM
I would want:
-Money
-Money to buy a new guitar
-Money to buy a new amp
-Money to buy a recording interface and a speaker simulator
-aaaaaaaaaaaand money would be nice too
Damn, I hope I get some cash for christmas
Posted by: The Uncreator Dec 8 2007, 03:49 PM

I would like a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier w/ Cabinet, a Custom 24 fret Gibon Les Paul, a date with the love Jennifer love hewitt, and a bucket of fried chicken !
...
Well if you can get all that for 500USD Matt you will be doing well
.
For me - well I just recently got the go ahead to get a new mic preamp - waiting for it to be delivered. So I guess for 500USD a new mic would be nice - I'd put the cash towards a Neumann U87Ai or similar
.

I ask for little at the holidays. I know I am getting a few cd's that were stolen from me, asked the wife for replacements for The Meat Puppets "too High To Die ", 4 Non Blondes " bigger,Faster,Better,More" and Opeth "Damnation" . I'll get some clothes and probably some crap I will never use. If Santa is really coming this year, he could bring me my new amp set up and some strings and maybe a new Breedlove acoustic

I want a huge mp3 player that can hold 100 gb if they exist? I have 2000 albums on CD that I want to take round with me all the time.

I saw an iPod today that cost about 250euros and it had 80gb hard-drive

I think the max capacity of an ipod now is 160 gb.
I think the max capacity of an ipod now is 160 gb. To some extent if you're cool with replacing the mini hd disc in a mp3 player then it shouldn't be hard to put one up to and above 100gb.

The new generation apple classic holds 160GB - http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/features.html
I'm going on the Toni route, I just need money for a new guitar though, hoping I'll get somewhere in the region of £300+ so I can finally buy something relatively decent. Also told I'm getting a extra large sized mug
because I drink so much tea and some socks along with a renewed GMC subscription.
Although I wish perhaps santa could give me some coal, like the bad children, because this house has a coal powered heating system and its nearly always cold.
Posted by: g-forcelover Dec 8 2007, 04:59 PM
hmm. im either getting a new marshall 30 watt combo or a special bc rich mockingbird. and money

Mixer allows you to record several instruments at the same time, it can serve as an audio-interface - this one in particular has a firewire connection and can work as audio interface. Cool thing about it is that you can use both Line-inputs and mic-inputs to use microphones to mic your guitar amp.
In studio Mixers work for "mixing" (really?
) and can work in combination with software if the software supports the certain hardware. Well, all in all - you get the idea. Tonymiro can help you much more about it as he's a real specialist in this area. I'm a n00b in mixing so i want to get it to learn to use it and see what my possibilities are with mixer in my small home studio
Posted by: tonymiro Dec 8 2007, 08:35 PM
+1 with what Pavel says about mixers.
Just to add that a mixer will also allow you to eq (ignoring any possible additional effects/processors that the mixer may have) at the recording and/or mixing and or mastering stage. And as Pavel says it allows you to bring together different formats and unify them ie XLR, Digital, TRS, 1/4'' jack etc inputs and put out as a digital toslink. It allows you to group together tracks, etc to apply a common recording/mixing theme. It allows you to set and adjust the gain, stereo balance etc in real time. Some mixers allow you to set and use multiple monitoring setups - so you can have one for the main stereo mix, another for the vocalist and so on. One thing to be slightly wary of - a mixing/recording mixer/console is different to a live mixer and different again to a summing mixer. Mic preamps on a good mixer are usually high quality. Mixers are also a very good way of bussing out stems/final mix etc to a /Reel to Reel/DAT/tape deck/CD recorder etc.
On some mixers you can show off a bit by setting up some auto stuff - for instance I can set my faders to automatically follow changes so they move by themselves when you play the recording back - maybe a bit silly but it seems to impress people a lot when they see the console working by itself . (Maybe much more useful is that I set scenes for different songs and occasional multiple scenes within a single song - a scene lets me switch mier setups all at once as a group.)
Cheers,
Tony

Yeah, I read so many reviews that said that it was no good, but I've had a ton of people tell me that it's great. So I guess I going to go with the majority on this.
And, yeah, Mass Effect and CoD4 look great; I dont know about Conan though...

But honestly a 3 month subscription to GMC would due nicely since my 1 month membership just ran out. ... I'd also accept 1 month of private guitar lessons.
