GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Gmc Redesign!

Posted by: Henrik Skotth Nov 26 2009, 06:35 PM

Hi guys!

For those of you who don't know me, I'm in charge of the web development team for GMC. Kristofer has just spent two days here with us at The Farm (the company which does most of the tech work here at GMC), working with the finishing touches for the new site design! Kristofer is now on his way home, and asked me to post the following message for all of you smile.gif

Here goes, straight from Kristofer:

As you have probably noticed we have launched the new design today.

The development team will be alert to fix possible bugs - and we are grateful if you report anything you might find. The coming weeks' development work will be devoted to fixing remaining flaws and bugs.

Some of the new features such as the video chat statistics in the header involve third party services - and will therefore not work right now (but we are working on them in this very moment).

We have also done some improvements to GMC back bone scripts and software - one example of this is that you no longer need two different usernames/password for the videos and forum. These background improvements will allow us to develop very cool features in the future.

If you check out the start page you will find some cool new stuff under featured content! Some extra credits: Thank you Fran for your wiki work and Marcus Lavendell for the Lesson Oldies video medley.

Awesome news! The site looks great! (even though I'm having some forum-bugs)

Bring our thanks to everyone involved! ^^

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Nov 27 2009, 09:32 AM

Hi Canis good to see you here - hopefully people will gradually drop in! (not all people are seeing the new site with this post yet)

We will do our best to fix the bugs the coming week(s) - for now I am happy if people manage to login and check the lessons! smile.gif

edit- forum avatars and uploads should be back as soon as possible.

Ooh.. Then please allow me to say: FIRST!!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif (After Henrik, of course..tongue.gif )

Hi Kris,
the new design looks great! At the moment I'm having trouble with my bookmarks, meaning the videos won't load. When I click on one of my bookmarks, let's say "power metal rhythm guitar", the site will appear, I can see the instructors description of the lesson and all, but the video doesn't load. I can play videos of recent lessons that are not in my bookmarks...
And I can't seem to find the comment-section under the videos anymore. Has it been disabled?

It works a little differently now - click the white field in the upper corner that says "Give Feedback etc"

The home page looks great smile.gif
The only thing I notice it's too much "white" behind the forum pages...
Let's wait a little wink.gif

Hi there Gitarrero. I'm yet another of the developers assisting Kris in bringing GMC even further =)

Big thanks for the quick feedback =) We found a issue with the video you mentioned and that should be fixed now.

Please give us more feedback if you have further problems and we'll get on em asap.

Hi Kris and Matthias,
thanks for your help, everything works fine now. All my bookmarks work, and I even found the feedback-section biggrin.gif
Very good work on the site and quick help, what more could a customer want? tongue.gif
btw, Kris, I just listened to your hilarious "Mittwoch"-song...great work, but your german...but other germans told you that already cool.gif
Very rammsteinish indeed, we need more of this!
Do you want a grammar challenge?
Zeitreisen werden Grammatik komplizierter gemacht haben.

Jerry - Maria had the same problem and we fixed it by clearing her cookies, could you try it?

Usually under tools > settings

After entering a lesson, the right column "reccomended lessons" shows the same avatar for each lesson.

Posted by: Emir Hot Nov 27 2009, 10:25 AM

I like the new front page design. I can't see the header in the forum section and buttons are a bit displaced. I gues some CSS fixes need to be done. I am using the latest Firefox. Nice work anyway.

Emir could you also try clearing your cookies? (just deleting GMC cookies should do the trick - you don't need to delete all of them of course)

Ok then it's probably because an old "remember me" cookie was stored in firefox from the old site - should be fixed if you remove that cookie (we are investigating a way to do this in our end so that everybody doesnt need to do it)

By the way here is how the forum should look:

Well, I meant that on Firefox it worked fine without erasing the cookies, while I did it on IE8.

Posted by: Emir Hot Nov 27 2009, 10:55 AM

I removed cookies and now is ok but the site loads very slow. Wherever I click I wait 5-7 sec for the page to open. It asked me 5 times for the username and password and it didn't go through. When I clicked on forum link it logged me in but it didn't tell me that I'm actually logged in.

Posted by: tonymiro Nov 27 2009, 11:02 AM

Same here Emir. First log after resetting cookies I was told to log back in, did that and then got a 'site down' message. Logged back in and was then linked to the site history. Relogged twice and finally got through...

Mine however showed me as logged in.

This is on FF 3.5.5

Posted by: Staffy Nov 27 2009, 11:06 AM

I have cleaned all cookies and tmp. internet files, but there's still no header in the forums in IE8...

Looks good! Going to spend some time looking around and trying things out. smile.gif
Yesterday, with the forum down, was the most boring day I've had in some time tongue.gif

The website seems a bit slow, but it might just be me. Forum looks good to me as well.
Got a "You are not allowed to reply to this topic"-like message first two times I tried writing this. I think I figured it out now biggrin.gif

When I click to edit the post, the display to choose between quick edit and Full Editor mode is displayed far off in the right bottom corner.

Posted by: edguy Nov 27 2009, 11:25 AM

Hey,

well i think i need more time to like the new design.

What i found out is that i can't login after i clicked on add reply at a forum topic. It says that the forum account is disabled use your gmc account. But nothing worked here.

And the Site is really slow

Yeah, its slow here too, and since I've got no header, its impossible to log out/in... even that Im logged in since I removed all cookies. (IE8)
But I guess the guy's will fix this. smile.gif Its always some minor problems when re-shaping sites....

Posted by: kyldeee Nov 27 2009, 11:43 AM

The new desing looks cool, although it's kinda slow for me at least smile.gif

And some of the lessons don't seem to work... The player won't load, f.e in Muris' dynamics lesson...
And I have one question how do I access my own profile, I can't seem to find it smile.gif

Nevertheless the site looks really great smile.gif

Cheers

Thanks a lot for the reports - we are currently trying to recreate the ie8 problem reported.

When possible - screenchots of your problems can speed things up (or if you let us know what error messages you get).

Posted by: superize Nov 27 2009, 11:44 AM

Site is runnning really slow here aswell......

Otherwise it looks good so far

Posted by: Bondy Nov 27 2009, 11:46 AM

looks great, but its taking a long time to load a page like quite a few other people.

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Nov 27 2009, 11:57 AM

i just want to confirm that the site is really slow here as well

Posted by: Jerry Arcidiacono Nov 27 2009, 12:01 PM

This is my screenshot from IE8 (8.0.6001.18702)

Posted by: Staffy Nov 27 2009, 12:05 PM

Oki, the problem with the missing header was resolved by logging in on the main page (although I was actually logged in before....)
Another issue is that the text under "Recommended Lessons" are cut to the right... just FYI....

Looks good though^^

I deleted all GMC cookies but still the same..

Posted by: purple hayes Nov 27 2009, 02:52 PM

Yup, seems up to speed now. Maybe even faster than before.

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Nov 27 2009, 02:53 PM

Yes - and please keep the reports coming. We have a lot of work to do

Posted by: Chokehold Nov 27 2009, 02:55 PM

Finally it's back. biggrin.gif
I had some problems but after I deleted my cookies the site is faster then ever. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Kristian Hyvarinen Nov 27 2009, 03:02 PM

Okay, it's a lot faster now than it was an hour ago. The forums, however, look very plain, not the way they're supposed to look like. A pile of links over white background.

Posted by: Chokehold Nov 27 2009, 03:16 PM

Btw why is the feedback removed from videos? Is it supposed to be that way, because I always like to see what other peoples think about the lessons too.

Posted by: Bondy Nov 27 2009, 03:22 PM

Mines back up to speed now awesome smile.gif

Looks to me like a link to a css file needs to be updated. Should be easy to fix.

Hey guys, great to see this is moving forward and from the feedback so far, looks like everyone is digging it!

From my end, the lesson pages look awesome but I think I'm having some trouble with the forum pages. Here are a couple of screen shots of what I see.

I'm glad to see GMC is always getting better and better!

The new site looks great to me! 300% better than the old one,

Great job!

I guess Forum Options are still unavailable? The gray button?

Also I can't edit old forum posts, is this supposed to be for now?

Posted by: Jose Mena Nov 27 2009, 04:12 PM

Cool, like the new design, I am trying to find figure out where a few things went.

Posted by: Keilnoth Nov 27 2009, 05:26 PM

For me, everything is incredibly slow...

But the design is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than the old one. smile.gif

Posted by: audiopaal Nov 27 2009, 05:38 PM

Looks very nice smile.gif

I'll check out the new features too, once I get home from Oslo.
I saw Paradise Lost, Samael and Engel last night! Awesome show biggrin.gif

Great work guys!!

edit: Works/loads very slow for me too..

edit: Group Icons (Instructor, Senior etc..) doesn't work for me..

edit: When I press the "edit button", the fall down menu appears further down on the site..

These issues might be happening because of the internet cafe I'm at isn't the best one, but I've never experienced this before..

Posted by: Frankster Nov 27 2009, 05:40 PM

Hi!

1.)
The usability in the Guitar Lessons isn´t very well.

The butten "Click to see more videos" isnt a good idea.

In the Beginner Section I must click several times on this butten and at the and you have a very long list of videos.
The browse through function was a better way

2.)
The whole site is very slow

3.)
I got some mysql database errors

Frankster

Posted by: Keilnoth Nov 27 2009, 06:41 PM

Yeah, I am sorry, I must say that the Guitar Lessons part isn't that good. The way you browse the lessons is really disturbing.

- First, you need to mouse over to see the difficulty level. That's really not userfriendly from my point of view.
- And the "Click to see more lessons..." completely lost me. Pagination is so simple and easy, why trying to revolutionize that old concept ?
- The "My bookmarks", "Bookmark this lesson" and "Rate this lesson" layers go under the flash player.
- You have to click on "Give feedbacks" to display the feedbacks... That's really not logical at all. Sorry.

The new Search looks good. smile.gif
But it still doesn't give any good result in the forum. sad.gif

Posted by: Lian Gerbino Nov 27 2009, 06:44 PM

Posted by: NoSkill Nov 27 2009, 06:44 PM

I'm finding the site very slow. Most page loads are over 1 minute long and I have a 4Mbps line here. The new layout is cool though.

Posted by: Lester Nov 27 2009, 07:05 PM

I'm having the same slowness probles, other than that: looks great!

Posted by: mattias_farm Nov 27 2009, 07:17 PM

We've changes some parts on how the forum fetches its header just about now.

If people still have a issue with header not showing from this point please report it so we can continue the search for whatever is causing it.

Thanks in advance.

yes, site is working faster now.. but replying takes several seconds yet.

Posted by: Gerardo Siere Nov 27 2009, 07:36 PM

I may be the only one that don´t like the new layout....
I find this brillant white background very uncomfrotable to my eyes. Also I gets harder to look where things are. Grey lines are too soft.

Posted by: Adrian Figallo Nov 27 2009, 07:46 PM

Loading time are great here now, as a webdesigner i really love the new design, very trendy and -i think- user friendly.

Heya Kris!

New design takes some getting used to, but I'm sure it'll be cool! The things I mentioned:
-Wiki Page is still as it was, no redesign there wink.gif
-The icons for Wiki:er and Instructor are now the icon for "picture not found". For instance when I copied the URL of the picture that should have been Adrian's Instructor's badge, it links http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/Bilder/staff2.jpg/ page, which gives a 404.
-Forum is kinda white...
-Sometimes the black bar in the video screen doesn't load, but the white timing indicator moves! It takes a little time before the black bar is loaded. See picture for further detail wink.gif The video works properly, it's no buffering problem.

- The full "Add Reply" function isn't working! So I can't upload my picture here! it says "This menu has been disabled".
-It was terribly slow on the Mac with Safari, but I'll check later tonight if that's still the same!
- Gallery page is REALLY messed up tongue.gif haha, it was hilarious wink.gif
- Sometimes the page for some reason doesn't fit in the screen. For instacne the box appearing when clicking the EDIT button, appears in the bottom left of the screen, but only half of it fits. Same with the comments and views of the profiles!
- HELP! tongue.gif Can't chat xD I either can't find the bar to typ in, or it's not on my page tongue.gif
-I really like the "What's happening" box on the workshop page! Would be possible to select wether you want all updates, or only lessons, only chat updates... etc? Cool gadget ^^
And ofcourse.. My video is not int he "students rock" page!!! laugh.gif Just kidding ofcourse. Since I've got Wiki Synopsis, I'll just add mine.... xD Please believe me, I'm joking wink.gif laugh.gif

this might sound like a bunch of critics, but please, it's just feedback so you guys won't get without a job laugh.gif

I'm on Chrome now.

Posted by: Marc_Maiden Nov 27 2009, 08:35 PM

ok so on internet explorer everything worked...

firefox and google chrome did not work for me, i even tried clearing cookies.

Posted by: CathShadow Nov 27 2009, 08:45 PM

I'm getting to look around now... I love the "recommended lessons" --> and the difficulty overlay...

getting used to it still... I really like the new fonts btw...

I agree with Kaz.. the white of the forum is quite sharp now..

Posted by: Keilnoth Nov 27 2009, 08:57 PM

Speed is perfect now ! smile.gif

Yep, the forum new font is pretty small and white...

Posted by: MickeM Nov 27 2009, 09:01 PM

"Mark all forums as read and return to index" is in white text on white background. Difficult.... unless you know it's there

Posted by: Emir Hot Nov 27 2009, 09:32 PM

Ok the site now works much faster but still sometimes I need to wait a bit longer - not always fast. I have noticed that there is not topic title when you open the thread. You can only see the title on the browser title bar. The next thing I noticed is that there are no comments on lessons. I just don't see that tab when you open a lesson. You can still find them on forum but not on normal lesson pages. The last I clicked on my profile and I opened "coolest lessons" tab. They seem to be sorted by date. I only see my first 12 lessons in publishing order, I don't think those first 12 are the coolest smile.gif Also I noticed that the date format of lesson publishing is now Y/M/D which is the other way around. I don't really mind the date format, just noticed that it is different.

about comments on lessons, it´s now on the right corner, just below your name.
I found it a little hide, but there it is.

Very nice design! smile.gif

I've spotted 2 problems so far

1) I don't know if everyone's loading time issue is the same, but if I view a lesson and try to open any other page (forum, another lesson, etc.), it won't open (just white screen and "loading"). The moment I close the video, it loads instantly. I also think that this happens while the lesson is being downloaded; once downloaded it works fine.

2) Sometimes the text in forums is cut on the right.

PS : just found one more : when pressing "Manage Current Attachments", the drop-down box appears somewhere below.

It seems that this problem goes with everything that produces drop-down menus - like "Edit" button.

Posted by: Raph Nov 27 2009, 10:18 PM

Great redesign! I like! happy.gif

The only bug for me in the forums, looks like their is no CSS file to support this.

But, oh well!

Great job!

GMC is like my home on the web and well like most women, I love to redecorate so I am so happy to see the new design up and running smile.gif

Great work done by all involved and a big thank you to Kris for keeping the site fresh and always looking to improve it... even though GMC has always been by far the best guitar site on the www. Other then some initial log in issues I haven't encountered any problems. Everything seems to be loading fine and the speed seems better then before... at least for me anyways.

Thanks again and if I encounter anything I'll let you know.

Since the new site came online I can not get into lessons??

GMC has perhaps put this upgrade in place before it was properly ready!

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?autocom=gallery is also needing some help..

Posted by: Rated Htr Nov 28 2009, 04:51 AM

I like the design but had problems login in and I can't view videos for the lessons.

Posted by: zen Nov 28 2009, 05:18 AM

I like it .. and from what I've tested so far it's all good..

Although, I have to login in seperately to the main site to watch videos and then to the forum (using the same account information though).

Videos are working fine for me..

Small bug I've noticed is while editing the post.. In IE, when I click edit under my post, the options (full edit/quick edit) appear way on the right. And in firefox and chrome, nothing happens when I click edit.

Posted by: Darknodar123 Nov 28 2009, 07:37 AM

I have another problem with lessons. For example I was going to comment in this video lesson

Overall new design looks good.

However:
- I can't seem to stay logged in (no cookies?)
- Can't enter chat messages, using Safari browser (on Mac)
- Gallery is indeed a bit screwed...

I was just given all 10s in a video I submitted to the REC! These new changes ROCK! My wife has turned into a supermodel and my kids are all doctors and lawyers.

/Seriously though Kris, making changes to a site can be a giant pain and it's hard to keep everyone happy. Keep up the good work.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working properly for me.
My pages look like this:-

I can't find the Homepage at all, the Gallery is all messed up too. I removed all GMC Cookies and also re-installed Flash Player 10. huh.gif

dont know if it's been posted before, but

The black "border" around the page is different on the forum compared to front page.. on forums it's just straight down on both sides while on the front page there are these cool drops or what it is.. hope you know what i am talking about.. wink.gif

well.. apparently i cannot edit my previous post either?!?!

anyways, the forum page is actually 1px or 2px lower than the front page.. (oh yes.. i used to be a web developer.. laugh.gif)

Awesome changes are taking place here, I love the new design. As always with changes, it will take some time to adapt, but the changes is a positive one that's for sure.

I'm currently running a lo-fi version of forum on my mobile PC, and it is working no problem, I hope in time everything will come into place nicely smile.gif

Congratulations Kris, I know there is a lot more work to do fine tuning the desing, but just want say you rule! smile.gif

Edit: I have just discovered that when I enter the chat... the nickname that appear is my connecting id not my forum name.

Posted by: NoSkill Nov 29 2009, 02:28 AM

Jean-Marc, look at the upper right, beside the big banner name of the lesson. There is a link that says, "Give Feedback..." if you are logged in or a link that says, "View Feedback," if you are not. If you are logged in, it gives you a space to type something. Just click in that space and the right pane then gets filled with feedback that has been left.

HEy,

Does anyone else have problems with staying logged in? Everytime I open my browser again (Safari, Mac) I have to login again on the frontpage. The forum seems to remember it, but not the video part. I've tried deleting all the cookies and relogin, but no success...

I have not been online for the last 2 weeks, and now, when I finally am online again, first thing I see is the new design, and it is awesome! :-) I will explore it a bit now wink.gif

Posted by: Joruus Nov 29 2009, 11:02 AM

I can't see the feedback in lessons either..
First its kinda hidden but i did find the part where you should click.. but when i click not much happens, except some bit of text seems to apear under the facebook button.
Does'nt matter if im logged in or not. (looks like i can post feedback when logged in, just not see any)

Anyway i think the feedback was much nicer placed when it was in the tabs like statics and my notes.

Other then that i really like the new design smile.gif

Also, the search function doesn't work for users. If you search for instance for someones user name, you can find some posts with his name in it, but it's not possible to find his profile. Could this be possible?

To take a screen shot on a Mac use .... COMMAND(apple)+SHIFT+3

And it is going to save a pic on your desktop

I have found the problem with the forum login...

First if you are on the main page and you click on the GMC Chat on the top.. you are going to be connected either by a Guest name and if you are connected it is going to appear under your email adress.

If you are logged in the forum and then you go to the Chat it is going to be your forum name that display.

I don't know why each time I return on the main page I have to connect again. The forum remembers me but not the home page... I am using safari for browsing..

Wow I'm back from a mini-trip to Belgium, was eager to check the new design, I could only get a glimpse of it from the crappy inet connection at my hotel.

Using IE7:
I like the looks, haven't checked many parts of the site yet, it works fast and looks good, but some pictures don't show, for instance group icons in the forum and the wiki competition results picture at the frontpage.

When I click "Edit" the dialogue box pops up further down the page.

Using Mozilla:
I see the group icons in the forum properly

I'll keep adding any other issues I might find.

Frontpage looks much cooler now, good job! cool.gif

Posted by: Darfuria Nov 29 2009, 05:48 PM

One would expect the "New Guitar Lessons" to show the guitar lessons in order from newest to oldest, and the "Recent Guitar Lessons" to not show lessons that are newer than the lessons in the "New Guitar Lessons" section.

Also, not anywhere on the homepage is there a "Register" button. As you're trying to make money from people, it might be a good idea to make it easy for them to sign up.

Posted by: Fran Nov 29 2009, 05:53 PM

Just found something else: the edit window of our wiki is very narrow with the new design, makes it a bit hard to edit pages comfortably. Maybe you could work some magic and make it wide, or at least as wide as it used to be cool.gif

And the problem with the "extra white border" on the wiki pictures is back, Mathias had solved it but it seems the new design has brought it back. Pics don't look very good, but I guess Mathias can fix the CSS, I guess that's where the problem lied the first time it appeared a couple months ago or so.

I keep adding as I find new things: Wiki pages have been altered, the spacing between two different paragraphs has dissapeared in most cases, which makes them look "too crowded" or unorganized now, specially on portal pages. I guess that's easy to solve, I'll start working on the most visible sections cool.gif

I guess these are not priority things to fix, given the circumstances, but I'll keep adding everything I find so that you have a list at least smile.gif

I can't make a new bookmark for a lesson. When I click on "Bookmark Lesson" another box opens under it says "Bookmark this Lesson" and an X, but nothing to do in the box. See pic below.

Also the suggestions column to the right is not fitting the page.

eg Vista Firefox etc.

Posted by: Rik Veldhuizen Nov 30 2009, 08:27 AM

Been mentioned before, but the large section on the top of the frontpage should display the latest lessons (most recently added); the ones mentioned a bit lower on the page (recent lessons) should be the ones that are relatively recent, but older than the ones mentioned on the top of the page. Any regular visitor to the site would check the top section only for new lessons. I now have the feeling no new lesson has been added since 23/11

Since Yesterday I'm not able to BOOKMARK lessons and also I'm not able to see about the 50% of all lessons ... (appares a white screen instead lessons) , is it normal at the moments or depends on my Internet connection ?

Please answer my question !

Posted by: berko Nov 30 2009, 10:10 AM

I love the new design but I'll have to add my problems here because I have a lot of them ohmy.gif

I'm using Safari 4.0.4 and Firefox 3.5.5, I've cleared all my cookies and caches and I followed the advice given in this forum by Mac-users, but still

- the forum is messed up
- lessons DO NOT ACTUALLY load (except for some of the old, small-screen ones)
- can't do any bookmarks
- I can't log in for the lessons (+ my previous password doesn't seem to be accepted, I requested another one to my email address but the only response is a 404 error code).

Could any Mac-users help me out? I can't log in to the lessons but even the the main and the free sample videos wouldn't load.

For around a week now I haven't been able to access 99% of the GMC lessons and it's really giving me a hard to time to even run through this troubleshooting forum because half of my screen is covered with html banner codes from member's signatures and so on.

I'm no expert, I don't know how long this should take and how GMC is designed as a web but it would be nice to at least access the most basic features of this site.

My patience is endless but my account money is ticking down.

I'm in support for this new site set-up and I am looking forward to this site working properly. I would still like to thank Kris and his crew for the hard work put into GMC! smile.gif

Posted by: Neurologi Dec 1 2009, 10:52 PM

Since everything is moving ahead so wonderfully is there a possibility NOT to have a "pure white" background for the forums ??!! Invert it perhaps with white on black? Even that would be an improvement.

Maybe it isn't so bad on a small laptop screen but on a high-res, very bright already, big bad ass wide-screen LCD it is getting to be rather annoying ... since the forum is where I spend most of my time anyways my eyes would really appreciate it!! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Christophe Dec 1 2009, 10:57 PM

I know that GMC can make other "Skins", I mean they can make "a file linked" to the entire website and you could change it by going to your brower settings (hmm maybe "Display" > "Style"). (cf. Cascading Style Sheets methods)

This is a possibility, I don't know an other one ^^

Posted by: jafomatic Dec 1 2009, 11:13 PM

If the forums are showing up "pure 100% white" then you need to clear your GMC cookies still. There should be only ~800px wide forum of buff/white/grey/red in the center and black background beyond that.

Again: if the forums are pure white, no decoration, you should clear your browser cookies for GMC.

Posted by: Neurologi Dec 1 2009, 11:27 PM

That isn't the problem. I have the decoration with "pure white" i.e. the background. That is a lot of white and for my purposes it ain't much of an improvement on all white without the decoration. A textured black border only make this stark contrast (in the wrong direction) worse. Nice idea and looks nice but the meat is in the filling.

Well, from a human interface standpoint:

1. what we have now is less than the "giant lcd" or whatever you said
2. white on black is even worse for human eyeballs

So it looks like the personal CSS trick would be best. I believe there's a firefox plugin for that.

Posted by: Neurologi Dec 1 2009, 11:53 PM

Yes there is. Stylish. Great plugin. Although, they are specific to a website. I suppose I could just configure it myself really. That should not be necessary though as it should be available as an option within the forum to change the style if the user wishes it. And I do. That is what I am trying to get at. I have a "giant lcd" and the "pure white" just doesn't cut it.

Mine is surely a bit less giant (just 24" or something?), but the proportion of off-white is still 50% of the screen. Smaller than a laptop screen where it would be 100% of the screen! I still don't get the comparison.

If you don't want to mess around with CSS, you could always flip the contrast setting of your GIANT monitor over to the "internet text" setting instead of the blazingly-hot "game" setting? That will significantly reduce the glare and eye strain.

Last guy that had the same problem cleared his cookies and logged in again. Worked like a charm.

Doesn't for me...

The metronome doesn't work in any lesson, no matter how long I wait and regardless of the tempo.

Weird it worked not so long ago - reporting!

dunno if it has been mentioned, but how do I search for lessons now? I want a picking lesson for a spefic level, but didn`t find any useful under guitar lessons when browsing for some minutes. Is it me who is blind, or are we in lack of a "advanced search" option?

I'm just guessing that the search box at the top right of the site, that reads "Search for anything on the site..." is probably intended for anything on the site. If lessons are not being returned from that manner of search, that should be reported as a bug.

Hey Kris,

I just wanted to upload a new REC take, and therefore I needed my GMC referal link to insert in the youtube description. On the members page I found first of all that my referal link changed. No problem of course, but all my old referal links in youtube will probably not work. AND.... I had two or three referals, but now it says I have 0!! Where did they go? tongue.gif

I also checked the referral flyer and... that's just wrong tongue.gif It contains "there are a lot of free material as well" which should be "There is a lot of free materials as well". The flyer also says that membership costs 29 USD for three months, which is not true wink.gif The flyer wasn't there before the redesign right? well, it needs some work laugh.gif DL the flyer http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/referral-flyer.doc

ow... shouldn't there be a huge SIGN UP button at the front page? Now people might not sign up, just because they can't find the button?
Just my thoughts wink.gif

thanks Kaznie - these are all bugs, the referral link has of course not changed and we will update the flyer!

In my case, the referral link has changed!! it was something with "skizflu" and now it's totally different!

I just found out the chat didn't work either on the Mac downstairs, with Safari browser. still couldn't type. Here on the Win7 (64 bit) machine, the background is just plain black, while on the apple it was cool dropping black tongue.gif

Posted by: Chokehold Dec 3 2009, 07:39 PM

I can't watch any one of the videos, It looks like they are fully loaded but it's just a black screen. I could watch them the first day the new design got on, with slow loading.

Edit: Of course it worked when I was about to take a print. smile.gif

I would still like to thank Kris and his crew for the hard work put into GMC! smile.gif

Most people are not yet aware that Flash has it's own cookies and they are stored elsewhere.

You can use Adobe's management tool here:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager.html

Mac users can use Flush.app:
http://machacks.tv/2009/01/27/flushapp-flash-cookie-removal-tool-for-os-x/

Also anyone using Firefox can use the BetterPrivacy addon to deal with Flash cookies.

Tried that before, doesn't work for me. Doesn't work in Safari, nor in Firefox, on Mac 10.6

I did a search for "Bogdan slap" and the results came up. I clicked on the "click here to see more lessons".

The lesson I'm looking for is in the middle of the 4th row of the results. It's the Slap and Pop Grooving lesson.

If I click on the title of the result, I get taken to the right lesson. http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-lessons/slap-and-pop-grooving/

If I click on the thumbnail, I get taken here: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/hammer-on-slap-lesson-3/

I was having the same problem, no lessons were returned on a search. The advanced search was there but it was not working, you could not search by level, lesson type, instructor, date etc. But now when I try to click anywhere on the advanced search screen, it takes me to the forum.
How do I go about reporting this as a bug? I have posted it on the forum a couple times but have seen no responses. Also the metronome is not working either, but I did see where Kris had reported that problem and it was being worked on.
The new design looks great and I know you guys are busy trying to work the bugs out, keep up the good work!

Until all the bugs are worked out, do your search from the Lesson Page http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ if it pertains to lessons. You will then have the options to the right that you are describing.

If you are searching for something on the forum, then continue to search through the forum search option. smile.gif

So am I doing something wrong? when I click on search from the link you gave me, it takes me to the advanced search screeen and then when I click anywhere on that screeen, rather than allowing me to continue with a search, it takes me directly to the forum.
If it is just a bug thats being worked on I'm okay with that. I just wanted to make sure it was reported. Thanks for the reply.

Let's walk through a scenario. From the link I gave you, In the white box above search, click inside and type legato. You should get a bunch of lesson recommendations for the technique. Then look to your right of the page, you should see the advance search with "legato" already filled to that search box. You can then filter by difficulty, Instructor, etc..

Let us know how that works for you.

That worked, but it still doesn't seem to be working correctly. A couple of times it still took me to the forum when I tried to search. I tried typing lessons in the bar instead of legato so I could get a list of all the lessons, then I could do an advanced search from there. But most of the searches I've tried with the advance search have yeilded few or no results (these are searches I've done before and know there should be more results).
Thanks to your suggestion I'm a little closer but I think it still has some bugs. Thanks for your help.

Yes man, definitely different and still probably some issues. Try clicking the "Lessons" tab beside the "Lick of the Day" tab. You should be able to drill down fairly deep from there as well. Keep posting issues that you have too!
