I have a few music recorder/mixer programs and was thinking it was about time to start recording a few licks here and there, but my microphone is sort of shoddy and was wondering if anyone knows of such a thing as something like a USB cable that has a guitar cable on the other end so I could plug my guitar directly into my computer ? I know absolutely nothing about recording ^^;

I have one Beheringher iAxe 393 that has a USB connection (although I never managed to play it on computer, always a big delay and real bad sound)

And I ordered an Line 6 TonePort UX1 that is a equip where you can connect your guitar and plug it in your computer. Hope it work better than my other guitar! smile.gif

Buy a POD or something and plug IT to the comp, that'll give a better result.

Anyway, if you only wanna plug your guitar, you'd have to add all effects in Windows. Windows isn't a musician friendly OS, so you'd have to change to mac if you don't want latency.

Honestly, go POD or Toneport.

Maybe you're looking for the StealthPlug?
It's a guitar cable with a USB plug in the other end.

Another barebones solution would be Line6 Toneport GX.

Both are relatively cheap, and good solutions.

I don't think you can hear the latency on Windows. wink.gif

buy a soundcard made for recording. There are good cards out there, like the M-audio Delta for about 150 bucks.. That will give you Very low to zero latency. You won't have any delay what so ever.

I agree! Latency is a function of the interface you use mostly, windows works fine and a modern PC with a reasonable interface.

Toneport UX1 is what I recommend, since I use one. Check out my review of it.

Atleast my local shop pro told me that I needed mac if I wanted to insert lots of effects from windows.
I also tested this, and confirmed it.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear.

Good decision. You might want a nicer soundcard too eventually, though it's not essential.
